Overview
Located in the city of Malibu, El Sol Beach is a small public-private beach situated between Nicholas Canyon County Beach and El Pescador State Beach. Also known as El Sol County Beach, this beach is owned by Los Angeles County since 1976.
Activities
Swimming is the only activity available at the beach.
Parking
Getting here is very easy – it is situated below 33550 Pacific Coast Highway. However, there is no direct public access to El Sol Beach because wealthy homeowners like Michael Eisner, the former CEO of The Walt Disney Company, have always opposed the construction of a public stairway. In response to this, Our Malibu Beaches mobile app creators have nicknamed El Sol Beach "Disney Overlook." You can only access the beach by walking 20-minutes east from Nicholas Canyon County Beach or west from El Pescador State Beach through algae-stick rocks during lows tides – or by kayaks. If traveling by car, you will find free street parking alongside Pacific Coast Highway.
Attractions
If you are looking for nearby attractions, you can drive two-minutes to Malibu Riding & Tennis Club, a 100-acre beachfront club featuring tennis courts, horse barns, dirt and paved roads, a nightclub, a restaurant, a pool, and a campground. If you like hiking, Solstice Canyon offers a six-mile-long trail that dates back to 1865 with incredible views of the Santa Monica Mountains, Pacific Ocean, a waterfall, and a stone cottage. Also known as the "Taj Mahal of Tile," Adamson House Museum explores the history of Malibu. Malibu Wine Safaris is spread across 1,000 acres on the Saddleback Ranch – it provides safari trips to see zebras, camels, alpacas, bison, and giraffes, wine tastings, and visits to the ancient Chumash cave paintings. Another good option is Malibu Pier, a tourist attraction site famous for its iconic dual white towers, rough-hewn planks, two restaurants, five stores, and an observation deck where you can fish and look for dolphins.
Restaurants
If you get hungry, there are many restaurants within a 10-minute drive. Kristy's Malibu is an American seaside eatery featuring seafood and outdoor patio seating. The local Italian restaurant D'amores Pizza serves salads, subs, pasta, pizza, desserts, and beverages. Another great option is Neptune’s Net, a biker-bar-cum-restaurant that has been featured in films, television series, and games, including Iron Man 3, The Fast and the Furious, Gossip Girl, and GTA 5.
Hotels
If you are looking for a hotel, Calamigos Guest Ranch and Beach Club is a 17-minute drive away – it features one-, two-, and three-bedroom bungalows, estate rooms, cottages, multiple pools, fitness centers, a spa, nature hikes, horseback riding sessions, and wine tasting tours. Malibu Beach Inn is a 4-Star hotel with a bar, spa, and restaurant which is located on Carbon Beach, which has been nicknamed Billionaires’ Beach due to the many ultrawealthy homeowners and incredibly expensive homes there. The 3-Star pet-friendly hotel Malibu Country Inn has a pool and an outdoor fireplace. If you are looking for an affordable option, the 2-Star hotel Native allows pets and provides hiking tours.
