Located to the north of Gamboa Point, Gamboa Point Beach - also known as China Basin Beach - is a picturesque beach along the Big Sur coastline that is surrounded by private property and inaccessible to the general public. The beach is situated below steep coastal bluffs and has light brown sand and some rock formations. There are palm trees and a grassy park adjacent to the beach.

There are many attractions near Gamboa Point Beach. The New Camaldoli Hermitage has lush public gardens with a great view of the Pacific Ocean, and it also has a bookstore. Henry Miller Memorial Library is dedicated to the memory of the renowned author Henry Miller and also serves as a gallery and performance space, hosting many exciting events throughout the year (particularly between May and October) including film screenings, live music performances, the Big Sur International Short Film Screening Series, and the Esalen Gazebo School Benefit. If you are looking for another attraction near Gamboa Point Beach, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park offers some interesting insights into the biodiversity and the rich history of the Big Sur region - it is home to towering 300 feet tall redwoods, some of which are around 2,500 years old. The park also has an 80-feet high waterfall and a house built in the 1940s by the famous politician and socialite Lathrop Brown and offers many fun activities including scuba diving, bird watching, and camping.

While the trail to Gamboa Point Beach is easily accessible from the Pacific Coast Highway, it is inaccessible to the general public as its entrance is gated off and "No Trespassing" signs near the entrance forbid anyone from entering the area from private property. If you want to have a look at the beach, we suggest driving around two miles south of Big Creek Bridge along the Pacific Coast Highway, where there is an overlook (with a free parking lot) above Gamboa Point that offers an Instagram-worthy view of Gamboa Point Beach. If you are looking for a beach with unrestricted access, we suggest heading to the nearby Limekiln State Park which has a beach that is open for day-use recreational visits.
