Playa Del Rey Beach

Tucked between Los Angeles’ Venice Beach and El Segundo’s Dockweiler Beach, Playa Del Rey Beach is a favorite of Los Angeles locals. Quaint and picturesque, Playa del Rey is the perfect spot for a restful day at the beach.

Only 30 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Los Angeles, Playa del Rey feels worlds away. With its undeveloped beachfront and quaint small-town setting, Playa del Rey is incredibly quiet. Although small, the beach itself is one of LA’s best. Its sand is white, soft, thick, and free of the trash that comes with large crowds. The water is turquoise and crystal clear, making the beach perfect for swimming, fishing, paddle-boarding, snorkeling, surfing, and sailing. From its scenic walking paths and picnic tables, beachgoers have views of lush sea-grape trees, the ocean, and the Los Angeles skyline.

While beachgoers primarily go to Playa del Rey for the beach, there are plenty of other ways to stay busy. Prince O' Whales offers a great place to watch sports, sing karaoke, or simply order some amazing food. Additionally, at Top Chef winner Brooke Williamson’s, Playa Provisions, feast on some of LA’s best seafood, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. Need to refuel? Head to Tanner’s Coffee, a local spot serving top-notch lattes and exotic brews. Prefer a late-night hotspot with great drinks and bar food? Dine at local favorite Tripel and order its incredible Tripel Burger, which is served with duck confit, pork and aged beef, truffle pecorino, and apricot jam.

As a small beach town, Playa del Rey doesn’t have many hotel options. Beachgoers generally stay at the Inn at Playa del Rey, a quaint and modern inn with spacious rooms that are just blocks from the beach. More discerning beachgoers drive ten minutes to the Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey, which offers luxurious rooms, five-star service, and incredible views of the marina.
