Overview

Located within the community of Sant Joan de Labritja on the northern coast of Ibiza, Benirras is a 300-meter-long and 40-meter-wide, crescent-shaped white sand pebbly beach.  This beach is positioned in a sheltered inlet that is surrounded by lush green hills and has a beautiful background of many oceanfront buildings, including upscale restaurants, hotels, and shops.   In addition, there is an islet that lies off this stretch of coast and is known by the name Cap Bernat, which resembles the Sphinx and provides Instagram-worthy views, especially during the sunset.

Activities

Benirras offers many fun activities, including sunbathing, beachcombing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, snorkeling, windsurfing, paddleboarding, sailing, boating, diving, and hiking.  The beach is a perfect place to go swimming, as the waves are usually calm.  The water near the beach is shallow, making it ideal for kayaks, canoes, and small boats.  In addition, visitors can also rent kayaks, canoes, boats, catamarans, and other adventure tours.  To make reservations, visitonline.  This beach also serves as an anchoring spot for private yachts and motor boats.  It attracts many divers and snorkelers, who can explore the unique marine ecosystems and biodiversity of the region.  The beach attracts a large influx of visitors as it hosts numerous concerts and festivals throughout the year, including the famous daily evening drumming session where locals and visiting drummers gather on the beach to create a rhythmic atmosphere.  In addition, visitors can also explore hippie market stalls selling clothes, jewelry, and souvenirs on the main paved street from Friday until Tuesday.  Dogs are not allowed here, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

Getting to Benirras is easy - it has a large free parking lot with 400 parking spaces located at Lugar Venda de Benirras, 154, which provides easy access to the beach.

The beach can also be reached by a public bus (line L23P), which stops near the beach.

Fun Fact

In 1991, many social activists and hippies gathered at Benirras Beach to protest against the first Gulf War in Iraq. These protesters used drumming circles as a means to protest, which ultimately evolved into an annual event, “The Day of the Drums.” Later, it became a Sunday ritual. Presently, many locals and visitors flock to the beach every evening, where they are creating a rhythmic and hypnotic musical experience as the sun sets over the Mediterranean Sea.

Attractions

There are many attractions near Benirras.  Cova de Can Marca is a natural cave formed millions of years ago by the action of water on limestone rock with a series of chambers, stalactites, and stalagmites.  Visitors can also enjoy a waterfall light show and interesting guided tours to explore these geological wonders.  Punta Moscarter Lighthouse is positioned on the northernmost point of Ibiza, on rugged cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.  This white and black-striped 52-meter-high cylindrical-shaped lighthouse guides the ships safely past the northern coast of the island of Ibiza.  Museo Etnográfico de Ibiza is a small museum that focuses on preserving and showcasing the ethnographic history, art, and culture of the region through interesting exhibits, artifacts, photographs, and related memorabilia.  In addition, it hosts many interesting educational programs throughout the year that attract visitors of all age groups.
