Situated 10 kilometers northwest of Tarifa, Playa Valdevaqueros is one of Spain’s most popular beaches for wind sports. The beach boasts alabaster-hued sand and clear turquoise waters, and overlooks the stunning Punta Paloma. Playa Valdevaqueros’ casual energy attracts a youthful beach audience.
At Playa Valdevaqueros, you’ll find a beach that truly has something for everyone. The beach is extremely windy, and is frequented by surfers, kitesurfers, and windsurfers who attend competitions on the beach. But it has areas that are sheltered enough for beachgoers to lounge under beach umbrellas and chairs, or tan in the Andalusian sun.
While Playa Valdevaqueros certainly isn’t an internationally renowned dining destination, its small-town appeal and authentic Spanish cuisine offer a unique and outstanding experience. Street vendors and local hole in the walls serve family-style and buffet lunches of grilled fish/meat and salads, while the Tumbao beach bar serves the town’s best melon mojito’s and tropical cocktails. At Playa Valdevaqueros, great food is served throughout the day, with the neighborhood burger stand feeding beachgoers into the evening.
To get to Playa Valdevaqueros, you want to drive. Heading from Tarifa Beach, you can get to Playa Valdevaqueros via small dirt roads. When you arrive, park in one of the nearby lots for five euros a day. And when you’re walking down to the beach, be careful not to fall on the beach’s wooden staircases.
