Playa de Los Lances, which stretches for seven kilometers from Punta de la Peña to Punta de Tarifa, is the epitome of Meditteranean beach paradise. With sweeping views of the Strait of Gibraltar, the African coast, and the Tarifa mountains, Playa De Los Lances has perhaps one of Europe’s most interesting beach locations.
While Playa De Los Lances is an incredibly beautiful place to lounge and relax, it’s also a well-equipped beach with many amenities and safety facilities. Public toilets, showers, and changing rooms help beachgoers stay clean after a sandy, wet beach day. For visitors looking for a unique beach experience, Playa De Los Lances offers two campsites: Camping Rio Jara and Camping Tarifa. The beach also offers surfing lessons, water sports, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. For these activities, Lifeguards, first aid points, and flags to signal the state of the sea are present to keep beachgoers safe.
Playa de Los Lances can be reached by car or on foot. There are parking spaces close by, but they’re often busy during summer. If these spots fill up, park on the main road and enjoy the leisurely stroll to the beach. The beach can also be reached by buses that run from Tarifa. Remember to bring your sunscreen as there aren’t convenience stores at the beach!
Fun fact: When the winds are strong, local bird species congregate on the beach to wait for the ideal conditions to cross the strip of water between the Straits of Gibraltar. Large numbers of seagulls and plovers also raise their offspring here.
