Overview
Located on the western coast of Andalucia in the province of Cadiz, Playa de Sancti Petri stretches for nearly three kilometers and has soft beige sand, lush hedges, and gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean. While there is limited street parking along the road, the marina has additional parking that’s located a mile north of the beach.
Once abandoned in the 1970’s, Playa de Sancti Petri has since been redeveloped into a leisure destination and is now a favorite for locals and tourists alike. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status for its high levels of cleanliness, exemplary facilities, and number of amenities that include sports equipment rentals, bathrooms, showers, lifeguards, and kiosks. You’ll find a large selection of activities here as the water offers moderate waves that are good for swimming and surfing. Kayaking, paddle-boarding, and scuba diving are also fun activities to enjoy, and visitors can rent pedal boats as well for a more laidback experience. Due to strong winds, the beach is very popular for sports like sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing.
If you’re interested in history and sightseeing, you can book a boat trip to the nearby Sancti Petri Island that features the historic castle Castillo de Sancti Petri which dates back to the 13th century and has amazing views. All activities and excursions can be easily booked at your hotel or near the marina, which is only a 5 to 10-minute walk from the beach.
If you’re looking for nearby restaurants, head towards the marina to Club Nautico Sancti Petri for its fresh seafood and tapas, or try the slightly more expensive Restaurante Bar El Flotante which is known for its delicious food and refreshing drinks. Both restaurants have a great ambiance and offer fantastic views of the ocean and harbor.
If you’re looking for a place to stay, you can drive five minutes east towards the town of Sancti Petri to Hotel Marisma Sancti Petri. This small charming hotel is located a mile away from the beach and features private balcony rooms, a Mediterranean restaurant, and an outdoor bar and pool lounge. For another option, we like Casagrande La Barrosa, which offers comfortable guesthouses with refined rooms, self-parking, and an outdoor area with a pool and garden. Casagrande is only an 8-minute walk from the beach and is a great option for travelers who prefer not to stay in hotels.
