Overview
Located in the southern part of Cabo San Lucas, Cannery Beach – also called Playa Empacadora, Playa La Empacadora, and Playa Empecadora – is a beach with light brown sand, some large rocks, nearby cliffs, and nearby rocky breakwaters in the southern end of Baja California Sur. This beach is located near the Cabo San Lucas Marina entrance – it is also part of a group of beaches named the Cannery Beaches – the other nearby beautiful beaches that are parts of the Cannery Beaches include Playa Coral Negro and Playa El Balcon.
Amenities
Cannery Beach Cabo does not offer lifeguards or any other amenities except a few basic restrooms and palapas rental facilities, so please plan accordingly.
Activities
Cannery Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, fishing, swimming, paddleboarding, boating, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet-skiing, surf-skiing, water-skiing, parasailing, wakeboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.
This beach is ideal for less-experienced swimmers because the water here usually has gentle waves. In addition, snorkelers and scuba divers also visit this beach to explore the vibrant marine biodiversity here. If you plan to swim, kayak, or canoe here, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves.

Parking
Getting to Cannery Beach is easy – this beach is located at the southern end of Boulevard Paseo de la Marina and it is easily accessible from Cabo San Lucas’s city center. There are a few free street parking spaces here – in case these parking spaces fill up, you can park at a paid parking lot near the beach. After parking here, you need to walk around 500 meters along Boulevard Paseo de la Marina to reach Cannery Beach.
Fun Fact
Cannery Beach Cabo San Lucas and its nearby beaches are collectively known as “Cannery Beaches” because there used to be an old tuna cannery near this beach – this cannery was one of the most productive ones in the Latin American region in the past, making it a site of historical importance. The area around this beach used to have a pier earlier; however, it was dismantled by local authorities in 2024.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Cannery Beach. Mt. Solmar – also known as Solmar Mountain – is a mountain that offers a strenuous yet challenging and fun hiking experience, along with amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Baja California Sur shoreline and the Sea of Cortez. The Arch of Cabo San Lucas – also called “El Arco” in Spanish – is a 200 feet-tall rock arch that is more than 100 million years old. This arch is a popular local landmark and the only way to visit this arch is by boat – you can also see seals in the water around this arch, and you can also see other interesting rock formations nearby including Pelican Rock and Neptune’s Finger. Museum of Natural History in Cabo San Lucas – also called Museo de Historia Natural de Cabo San Lucas – has exhibits on paleontology, geology, paleobiology, biology, palaeoanthropology, and history – its collection includes animal remains, nautical instruments, remains of a Native American Pericu woman, and marine animal-themed exhibits.
Plaza Amelia Wilkes is a town plaza that is named after a local teacher and community leader named Maria Amelia Wilkes Cesena – this plaza has a lively ambiance and it offers beautiful gazebo, gardens, and public artworks, along with great food options and shopping stores. This plaza also hosts a fun weekly event named “Viva La Plaza !” If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Marina Cabo San Lucas is a marina that offers many interesting shopping stores, bars, and restaurants – you can also book fun boat trips here and this marina also has a boardwalk. In addition, this marina also hosts many fun events including fishing tournaments and rock music performances.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Cannery Beach. Captain Tony’s is a popular restaurant that is known for serving excellent seafood, along with a variety of other dishes including pizzas, tacos, breakfast dishes, and fajitas. La Roca is an upscale restaurant that serves a variety of Internationally-inspired dishes for breakfast and dinner including fettuccine pasta, glazed pork belly, and steak tacos. Cabo San Lucas Solomon's Landing offers many excellent dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner including seafood, ribs, pasta, tacos, salads, and toast. Los Tres Gallos is a Mexican restaurant that has a courtyard and a bright decor and it offers delicious Traditional Mexican dishes including chile rellenos, mole con pollo, Mexican-style lamb and enchiladas – it has also been praised by the MICHELIN Guide. If you are looking for another restaurant near the beach, Los Cabos Fish Tacos is known for serving excellent seafood tacos.
