Located in the eastern end of the city of Melbourne Beach in Brevard County, Coconut Point Park is nearly 37 acres in size and has a beach with light brown sand. There are sand dunes near the beach, as well as many kinds of native coastal plants which play a crucial role in the local ecology by stabilizing the sand dunes. In addition, Coconut Point Park serves as a nesting beach for sea turtles, which are protected under the United States Endangered Species Act of 1973. According to this act, any person who knowingly violates any provision of the act may be assessed civil penalties of up to $25,000 or criminal penalties of up to $100,000 and up to one year of imprisonment.
