Seven Mile Beach(Negril Beach)

Located in the Jamaican resort town of Negril, Seven Mile Beach – also called Negril Seven Mile Beach – is a popular seven-mile-long beautiful beach with white sand.

TripAdvisor listed this famous beach as one of the best beaches in the world in 2018 and 2019 as part of its Travellers’ Choice award.  In addition, Lonely Planet also listed this Jamaican beach as one of the best beaches in Jamaica, and it is a favorite of Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as Mr. Beach. 

This beach is separated into two unequal parts by a headland – the northern portion of this beach is two miles long while the southern portion of this beach is almost five miles long.  The bay near the northern part of the beach is known as Bloody Bay and the bay near the southern part of the beach is called Long Bay. 

This beach should not be confused with another popular beach called Seven Mile Beach which is located in the Cayman Islands. 

Seven Mile Beach offers many amenities, including lifeguards, changing rooms, restrooms, picnic areas, beach vendors, and rental facilities for beach chairs, water sports equipment, sunloungers, showers, and beach umbrellas.

Seven Mile Beach offers many fun activities, including sunbathing, beachcombing, fishing, swimming, paddleboarding, boating, snorkeling, scuba diving, water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, canoeing, surf skiing, and wildlife watching. 

This beach in Negril is ideal for less-experienced swimmers because the shallow, crystal-clear, turquoise waters are usually calm. The water also offers an amazing scuba diving and Seven Mile Beach snorkeling experience because of its vibrant biodiversity. Coral reefs near the beach are home to many kinds of fish.  

If you like taking photos with beautiful views, this beach in the Caribbean offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Negril shoreline, nearby cliffs, and the Caribbean Sea, especially at sunset.  If you like horse riding, there are many local concessions that offer horse rides – you can have a fun Seven Mile Beach horse riding beach experience here.  If you like shopping, there are many great shopping stores near Seven Mile Beach.  In addition, the southern end of the beach has a crafts market and a community park that hosts fun local events.  If you like boat tours, Captain Jace Allen Glass Bottom Boat Tours Negril offers interesting boat tours of the nearby Negril river and it offers an insight into the river’s vivid biodiversity – you can look into the river through the boat’s transparent glass bottom. 

Seven Mile Beach does not offer wheelchair access to visitors with disabilities. 

Getting to Seven Mile Beach is easy – this beach is located along a road named Norman Manley Boulevard and it is easily accessible from Negril’s central part.  There are a few free street parking spaces and small free parking lots nearby.  In addition, you can also park at the parking lots of some of the restaurants near the beach for free if you are dining there.   We recommend avoiding leaving valuables in your parked car because burglaries are common here. 

If you want to travel by ferry, you can get a ferry to this beach from the nearby city of Montego Bay and the nearby town of Ocho Rios.  There are many local private organizations that offer catamaran tours of this beach – you can find the details about these organizations through the internet.

We recommend being careful while visiting this beach with family because some visitors often smoke marijuana here.

This beach was earlier known to be a safe haven for local pirates. 

There are many attractions near Seven Mile Beach.  Kool Runnings Water Park is an amusement park in Negril, Jamaica, that offers many fun rides and things to do, including waterslides, paintball, a go-kart area, canoeing, and a lazy river ride – it also offers a juice bar, a sports bar, and a restaurant.  Barney's Flower and Hummingbird Garden Jamaica is a privately owned garden that is a 20-minute-drive away and offers a variety of interesting plants, including bromeliads, firecrackers, and ginger lilies – this garden is known to have many hummingbirds, along with a wide variety of other birds and animals.  Negril Hills Golf Club has an 18-hole golf course that offers a fun and challenging golf experience and has a restaurant.  Blue Hole Mineral Spring is a mineral spring that is 30 minutes away by car that offers turquoise water and it is a popular site for swimming and wading.  If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Jamwest Motorsports and Adventure Park is also a 30-minute-drive away and offers a variety of fun things to do and explore including ATV tours, ziplines, a petting zoo, an aviary, a circuit track that offers sports cars, a push cart, and a boardwalk that offers insights into the local culture and natural history. 

If you get hungry, there are many great bars and restaurants near Seven Mile Beach.  1Fusion Negril Restaurant and Bar offers a variety of excellent Jamaican dishes including ackee and saltfish, Jamaican-style curried chicken, and Caribbean-style jerk pork - it also offers local cocktails.  The Lobster House is a restaurant and bar that offers amazing Italian dishes and seafood including its signature lobster, pizza, pasta, chicken cutlets, and alfredo shrimp.  Tip Top Surf and Turf Cuisine is known for serving excellent seafood and it also offers a variety of other dishes including curries, chicken kebab, and burgers.  Fireman’s Lobster Pit is known for serving excellent lobsters and it also serves other seafood dishes including crabs, conch shells, and fish.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant near the beach,  Mi Yard offers a variety of excellent dishes for lunch and dinner including salads, sandwiches, seafood, and chicken dishes.  Rick’s Cafe Jamaica is another popular nearby restaurant and bar that offers amazing Caribbean style dishes and excellent cocktails - it also offers amazing parties.
