Located in the commune of Siculiana, Spiaggia di Torre Salsa – also called Torre Salsa Beach, Spiaggia Libera di Torre Salsa, and Torre Salsa Nature Reserve Beach – is a long beach with golden sands, gravel, some rocky parts, nearby white colored cliffs, and nearby sand dunes.  A portion of this beach is sometimes used as a nudist beach – this nude beach area is called Spiaggia Naturista di Torre Salsa..  In addition, another part of this beach is also called “Costone Bianco” – this part received its name because it is located near white colored cliffs.

Spiaggia di Torre Salsa Sicily is a part of a 762-hectare natural reserve named Riserva Naturale Orientata Torre Salsa and this beach is also managed by WWF, which is also known as the World Wildlife Fund.
Conde Nast Traveller listed this beach as one of the best beaches in Sicily in 2024, and it is also a favorite of Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as Mr. Beach.  In addition, The Times also listed this beach in its article “24 of the best things to do in Sicily on your next Mediterranean break.”

This beach is ideal for beginner swimmers because the crystal clear water here is known to have gentle waves.  However, if you plan to swim, kayak, or paddleboard here, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents.  In addition, the rocky shoreline around the beach can also cause many injuries.

If you like birdwatching, you can see many resident and migratory birds around the beach including peregrine falcons, seagulls, and crows.  In addition, the reserve also has a rich flora and fauna and you can also see many terrestrial and aquatic animals here including porcupines and caretta caretta turtles, which are also commonly called loggerhead turtles – loggerhead sea turtles also use this beach as a seasonal nesting site.

If you like taking pictures with excellent views, Spiaggia di Torre Salsa offers amazing Instagram-worthy and panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the southwestern Siculiana shoreline.

This beach is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter beach experience because this beach sees fewer visitors as compared to other nearby Sicilian beaches.  If you like hiking, you can hike near the beach through hiking trails and explore many interesting things to see including agricultural land, geological formations, a natural amphitheater named Valle del Ginepreo, abandoned quarries, and many interesting historic landmarks including Byzantine-era tombs, remains of ancient watchtowers, and rural houses.
If you visit Torre Salsa Nature Reserve between June 30th and September 15th, you can also have a guided tour of this reserve on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday – if you want a guided tour, you can visit the reserve’s visitor center or contact the reserve authorities by phone at +39 (327) 774-2954.

Spiaggia di Torre Salsa does not offer wheelchair access to visitors with disabilities.

In addition, there are two additional access trails for Spiaggia di Torre Salsa that have entrances labelled as “Montallegro” and “Eremita” – these entrances are easily accessible from Strada Statale 115 through Strada Provinciale 87 and Strada Provinciale 75.  There are free dirt parking lots near the access trails.

After you park at these parking lots, you need to walk along the long, slightly steep, and rugged dirt track access trails to reach Spiaggia di Torre Salsa.  There are street signs near Spiaggia di Torre Salsa that offer driving directions for access trails to the beach – we recommend driving with a 4x4 vehicle because of the rugged roads.

You can find an interesting white rock named marlstone near Spiaggia di Torre Salsa – these rocks are formed from a mixture of many materials including calcium carbonate, clay, and kerogen.  You can also find many other interesting minerals and rocks here including various forms of gypsum, rock salt, potassium salt, and limestone – the deposition of these rocks and minerals here started around 6 million years ago because of a partial drying up of the Mediterranean Sea.

There are many attractions near Spiaggia di Torre Salsa.  Mount Cupolone Viewpoint is a hilltop observation area that offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Siculiana shoreline and the Tyrrhenian Sea.  Torre Salsa Watchtower is a historic watchtower that was built in the late 16th century as a part of local coastal fortifications against Saracen raids – this watchtower offers an interesting insight into local history and it offers some great photos.  The other major attractions near the beach are located around the city of Siculiana, which is located 25 minutes away by car.  MeTe Museo della Memoria e del Territorio is a museum that offers interesting exhibitions on local history and culture, along with exhibitions on the evolution of local handcrafts and industries – one of the prominent exhibitions here covers the work of Giuseppe Basile, who served as famous statesman Giuseppe Garibaldi’s doctor.
