Freshwater Bay is a tranquil and picturesque bay located on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, about 10 miles west of Port Angeles, Washington. It offers a serene environment ideal for kayaking, paddleboarding, and small boat launches. The bay is known for its diverse marine life, including river otters, orcas, and harbor seals. Visitors can enjoy activities like fishing, crabbing, and birdwatching, while the surrounding area provides opportunities for hiking and exploring nearby attractions like the Striped Peak Recreation Area.
The park features a five-acre picnic area with Western Red Cedar and ferns, open from May 15 to September 15, and a lower picnic site that is accessible year-round. The beach area expands significantly at low tide, revealing tidepools and driftwood.
Freshwater Bay's name originates from early explorers who found fresh water from the Elwha River nearby, despite the bay itself being saltwater.
