Located on a barrier island named Mustang Island, Mustang Island State Park Beach – also called Mustang Island Beach and Mustang Beach – is a five-mile-long beach with pale cream sand and nearby large sand dunes. This beach is a part of a 3,954-acre state park named Mustang Island State Park, and is usually open between 8 am and 5pm
Amenities
Although Mustang Island State Park Beach does not have lifeguards,
the beach has many other amenities including restrooms, a store selling
supplies, showers, a boardwalk, barbecue areas, and picnic tables.

Mustang Island State Park Beach offers many fun activities
including sunbathing, beachcombing, hiking, picnicking, biking, geocaching, fishing,
swimming, surfing, skimboarding, bodysurfing, bodyboarding, camping,
windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, boating, kayaking, canoeing,
surf-skiing, and wildlife watching.
This beach is ideal for surfers because the clear water here
offers fun surfing waves – a pair of rocky jetties here named the Fish Pass
Jetties is a popular surfing site, particularly during winters.
If you are planning to swim, surf, kayak, or paddleboard here, we
recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable
rip currents and dangerous waves. In
addition, the water here can also have high amounts of seaweed, making water
activities difficult. Jellyfish and
stingrays also live nearby.
If you like fishing, the Fish Pass Jetties located on this beach
are also a popular fishing site. If you like birdwatching, the best seasons for
birdwatching at this beach are during Autumn and Spring and you can see many
kinds of migratory birds here. If you
like camping, there are multiple tent campsites on the beach that offer an
amazing oceanfront camping experience.
In addition, there are also multiple RV campsites near this beach – if you are
planning to camp in Mustang Island State Park, you can visit Texas Parks &
Wildlife Department’swebsite for more information regarding
the campsite charges and amenities.

Mustang Island State Park Beach has two beach wheelchairs for visitors with disabilities – you can acquire a beach wheelchair from the Mustang Island State Park’s head office. You can also contact the local state park authorities at (361) 749-5246 for more information about booking the beach wheelchairs.
Parking
Getting to Mustang Island State Park Beach is easy – this beach is located near 9394 Texas State Highway 361 and it is easily accessible from Texas State Highway 358. There is a free parking lot near the beach but you need to pay a $5 entrance fee during your visit to the park. If you are planning to visit this beach around evenings, we recommend bringing bug repellent because this beach can have a lot of bugs
Fun Fact
Mustang Island State Park Beach and Mustang Island received their name – Mustang Island – because a species of American wild horse named Mustang used to live here earlier. In addition, this beach is also used for nesting by critically endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtles between mid-March and August.

There are many attractions near Mustang Island State Park Beach. Padre Island National Seashore is a waterfront 70 miles-long protected coastal area that has multiple beaches including Padre Island North Beach,Little Shell Beach,Big Shell Beach,Padre Island South Beach, Closed Beach andMalaquite Beach. This national seashore offers many fun activities including sunbathing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, swimming, camping, hiking, wildlife watching, biking, and fishing. Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center is a 17-minute drive away and has freshwater wetlands – you can see many kinds of resident and migratory birds here. This center has many amenities including a pollinator garden, two boardwalks, two viewing scopes, benches, observation areas, and hiking trails.
Padre Balli Park is a waterfront recreational park that has a beach named Padre Balli Beach and it also offers many fun activities including surfing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, picnicking, beach-driving, and beachcombing. In addition, this park also has a campground, along with many other amenities including restrooms, two pavilions, picnic areas, and a 1,200 feet-long pier named the Bob Hall Pier. In The Game Funtrackersis an amusement park that offers many fun rides and things to explore including go-karts, bumper boats, a laser maze, and an arcade. If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Roberts Point Park is a waterfront park that is a 20-minute drive away and offers many amenities including a pavilion, a patio, picnic areas, basketball court, bocce courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard courts, observation areas, a mile-long trail, an amphitheater, and an observation tower. This park offers many fun activities including biking, fishing, jogging, picnicking, and volleyball and it also hosts a seasonal concert series.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Mustang Island State Park Beach. Black Sheep Bistro offers a variety of excellent dishes including pork chops, steaks, pastas, risotto, burger, seafood, and salads. Ol’ Steakhouse Co. is a steakhouse that is a 22-minute-drive away and is known for serving outstanding steaks, along with many other delicious dishes for lunch and dinner including chicken dishes, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, and pastas. Saltwater Grill is a restaurant that is a 20-minute-drive away and is known for serving excellent seafood dishes, along with a variety of other dishes including pastas, chicken dishes, sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Doc’s Seafood & Steaks is known for excellent seafood and steaks, along with excellent soups, salads, chicken dishes, burgers, sandwiches, and tacos.
