Edgewood Beach

Located on the eastern end of the city of Cranston within Providence County, Edgewood Beach is a very small beige sand beach.  The beach has a beautiful background of many oceanfront buildings, including a few hotels and many homes along the Providence River, which together provide incredible views.

Edgewood Beach does not have lifeguards or any other amenities except a fishing pier and a boat ramp, so plan your trip accordingly.

Edgewood Beach offers a few fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and beachcombing.  If you are planning to go into the water, there is a safe swimming area.  If you enjoy fishing, we recommend that you abide by the local fishing regulations.  Edgewood Beach is perfect for visitors looking for a tranquil beach experience, as this beach sees fewer visitors than other nearby beaches.   Dogs are not allowed on the beach, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

Edgewood Beach does not offer an access path for people with disabilities.

Getting to Edgewood Beach is easy - it has free street parking spots located near 28 Arnold Avenue, which provides easy access to the beach.

Edgewood Beach is a perfect spot to relax and unwind while watching the sunset over the Providence River.

There are many attractions near Edgewood Beach.  Roger Williams Park is a dog-friendly park spread over 435 acres that features botanical gardens, a zoo, a museum, a planetarium, a carousel village, a large pond with swan boats, walking trails, pavilions, benches, picnic areas, picnic tables, and restrooms.  In addition, the park hosts interesting events and live concerts throughout the year.  Museum of Natural History and Planetarium has a large gallery that displays interesting exhibits related to natural history, local geology, paleontology, biology, and native biodiversity.  It also has a planetarium that showcases intriguing week-end shows related to astronomy, space exploration, and the night sky.  The museum also hosts many educational programs and events that attract people of all ages.  Pomham Rocks Lighthouse is located on a rocky outcrop along the Providence River, which flows into Narragansett Bay.  This 39-foot-tall lighthouse is no longer an active aid to navigation, but visitors can explore this historic building through interesting guided tours.  

The John Brown House Museum is an 18th-century, well-preserved home of John Brown, a renowned merchant and politician of his time.  Visitors can explore this Georgian-style villa, period furnishings, and unique collection of artifacts through guided tours that provide interesting insight into the cultural heritage of the Brown family.  If you are looking for another attraction near Edgewood Beach, Salter Grove Memorial Park is a riverfront park with a breakwater that offers many amenities, including a boat ramp, a small playground, walking trails, a fishing pier, and a parking lot.  Visitors can enjoy hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and watching wildlife.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants within a three-minute drive of Edgewood Beach.  Basta Italian Restaurant is an upscale restaurant that serves Italian classic dishes including salads, pizzas, pastas, risotto, seafood, meat, poultry dishes, and desserts.  Edgewood Cafe serves amazing salads, steaks, pizzas, pasta, sandwiches, seafood, and desserts. The Cozy Grill serves cheeses, omelets, sandwiches, pancakes, waffles, wraps, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, pork, meat, and poultry dishes.  Rim Nahm Thai Cuisine serves incredible soups, salads, curries, noodles, fried rice, jasmine rice, and desserts.    If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant, Neza Mexican Restaurant serves salads, soups, tamales, Chile Rellenos, quesadillas, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, nachos, and fajitas.
