Tucked away in the scenic town of Medicine Park, Oklahoma, Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area (LETRA) is a hidden gem that boasts a unique combination of outdoor adventure and serene beauty. Situated within the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, this beach offers a slightly different experience from your typical seaside getaway. The beach's soft, golden sands stretch along the lake's edge, providing a picturesque setting for a day under the sun. Among the activities available are swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing, each offering a unique way to experience the lake's tranquil waters. Unfortunately, Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation has few amenities, so plan your trip accordingly; however, it does provide visitors with picnic areas and grills, making it a perfect spot for a family outing or a peaceful day in nature. Please note, dogs are not allowed, there are no lifeguards on duty, bathroom access is not available, and amenities like disability access, nude sunbathing, camping, and surfing are also not supported.
