Coles Creek State Park is located on the St. Lawrence River, just north of Waddington, New York. The park offers a serene escape with both wooded and open campsites, many of which provide scenic views of the river. It features a swimming beach in a small protected bay near the campsites, making it ideal for relaxation and water activities. The park's marina, situated on the mouth of Coles Creek, offers excellent protection for boats. The area is rich in wildlife, including whitetail deer, coyote, bobcat, and various bird species.
The park's history dates back to the late 1950s when it was developed by the New York Power Authority as part of the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project. The St. Lawrence River, one of the world's longest rivers, is renowned for its hydroelectric power generation capabilities due to its high volume and uniform flow.
