Belmar Beach

Belmar Beach is a beautiful and popular beach located in the town of Belmar, United States. The beach spans over 1.3 miles and boasts soft, white sand with a few areas of rocky outcrops. Visitors can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, surfing, fishing, and beach volleyball. The beach has many amenities, including public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season.

Belmar Beach offers lifeguards between 9 am and 5:30 pm on weekdays, and between 9 am and 6 pm on weekends.  The beach has lifeguards on a seasonal basis.  In addition to lifeguards, this beach has many other amenities including restrooms, a nearby boardwalk, picnic areas, showers, and a playground.  Please note that most of the restrooms here are seasonally open to visitors – you can visit the website of the Borough of Belmar for more information for the exact seasonal duration of restroom availability. 

Dogs on leash are allowed at Belmar Beach between October 1 and April 30th.  Dogs are not allowed at the beach during the remaining time of the year.

Belmar Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, picnicking, fishing, swimming, surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, parasailing, boating, bodysurfing, bodyboarding, skimboarding, water-skiing, wakeboarding, jet-skiing, kayaking, canoeing, surf-skiing, and wildlife watching. 

If you are planning to swim, kayak, surf, canoe, or paddleboard here, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves.  You can check the Belmar Beach live cam online to see the current water conditions at the beach. 

If you are planning to boogieboard near the beach, please note that boogieboarding is permitted near the western ends of 7th Avenue, 14th Avenue, and 20th Avenue.  In addition, surfing here is permitted near the western end of 17th Avenue and 18th Avenue. 

We recommend visiting this beach in late summers because the Belmar Beach water temperature is ideal for water activities during this season.

Belmar Beach has multiple mobility mats for visitors with disabilities.  In addition, this beach also has beach wheelchairs for visitors with disabilities – if you want a beach wheelchair, you can contact the Borough of Belmar’s Beach Department by phone at (732) 749-4530 for more information.  Please note that the Beach Department is usually active between Memorial Day and Labour Day.

It is also important to note that you need to purchase and wear a “beach badge” to visit this beach between Memorial Day and Labour Day.  On Fridays, weekends, and public holidays, beach badges are required between 9 am and 6 pm.  On weekdays, beach badges are required between 9 am and 5 pm.  If you want to purchase a beach badge, you can visit the Borough of Belmar’s website for more information regarding purchase of the beach badges. 

The name of this beach and Borough – Belmar – means “beautiful sea” in the Italian language.  Belmar Beach also hosts many fun events including an event named Autism Beach Bash that commemorates visitors with Autism Spectrum Disorder, a volleyball tournament named Belmar Beach Volleyball League, and a movie screening series named “Movies on the Beach”. 

There are many attractions near Belmar Beach.  Maclearie Park is a recreational park that offers many amenities including a picnic area, a playground, and tennis courts.  Belmar Arts Center is an art gallery and arts center that offers many interesting artistic exhibitions featuring local artists – this center also hosts live music performances and it also hosts arts classes and workshops.  Belmar Historical Society & Museum offers interesting exhibitions on local history and it also has a gift shop.  If you like shopping, the Borough of Belmar’s Main Street offers many interesting shopping stores.  If you like live music, The Stone Pony is a famous live music venue that offers many fun and exciting live music performances and it has hosted many eminent musicians including Bruce Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt.  If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Go Play Arcade is a gaming arcade that offers a variety of fun games.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Belmar Beach.  La Dolce Vita is an oceanfront Italian restaurant that offers many amazing dishes including pastas, burgers, chicken parmigiana, sandwiches, burgers, and chicken wings.  Flames Brazilian Steakhouse offers amazing Brazilian dishes including Brazilian-style steaks, along with a variety of other Brazilian barbecued meats.  Mr Shrimp is a restaurant that is known for serving excellent seafood and it also offers wraps, salads, steaks, pastas, and chicken dishes.  Marina Grille offers amazing dishes for lunch and dinner including seafood, pizza, burgers, pastas, and steaks.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant, Federico’s Pizza is known for serving excellent pizzas and it also offers excellent pastas and salads.
