Cave Point Group Use Area is located at the north end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir, approximately 30 miles east of Helena, Montana. It offers a variety of year-round recreational activities such as swimming, fishing, sailing, and motor-boating. The area is rich in mining history, named after one of the first settlements, Cavetown. Visitors can explore the original horse-drawn ferry crossing site that once transported miners across the Missouri River. The group use shelter is a small 30' x 36' facility with six picnic tables and an accessible vault toilet, accommodating up to 50 people.
The surrounding landscape is nestled between the Big Belt and Elkhorn Mountain ranges, providing a scenic backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts. Activities like canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing, and ice fishing are popular among visitors. The area is accessible via Highway 284, making it a convenient spot for those looking to enjoy the beauty of Canyon Ferry Reservoir.
Despite its natural beauty and historical significance, Cave Point Group Use Area is more of a secluded recreational spot rather than a traditional beach, offering a unique blend of history and outdoor adventure.
