Overview

Located on the island of Nantucket, Madaket Beach is a long, wide, and beige colored beach situated on the southwestern shore of the island.  The western end of the beach is usually crowded as it is a great spot for watching sunsets.

Amenities

Madaket Beach welcomes dogs on leash, is surrounded by cliffs and a pine forest, and offers many amenities including lifeguards, showers, boat rentals, and water sport equipment rentals.

Activities

There are many fun activities at Madaket Beach including swimming, surfing, scuba diving, hiking, jet-skiing, sunbathing, snorkeling, and beach walking.

Getting to the beach is very easy – the beach’s free parking lot that has 50 parking spaces is located at Pennsylvania Avenue, Nantucket and provides easy access to the beach.

Attractions

If you are looking for attractions near Madaket Beach, you can drive 15 minutes to many options.  Whaling Museum is an island-history located in an 1846 candle factory and features Nantucket's rich whaling heritage including a whale skeleton, artifacts, ship models, roof deck, and interactive displays.  Hadwen House is a Greek Revival mansion that offers a glimpse into the island's 19th-century luxurious history and boasts elegant interiors and beautifully landscaped gardens, providing a fascinating window into Nantucket's past.  Brant Point Lighthouse is an iconic landmark which offers a lot of information about the island's maritime history and is a great spot for walking and photography.  Sconset Bluff Walk is a hiking trail along the island's eastern shore and offers amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean and the village of Siasconset.  If you are looking for another good nearby attraction, Sankaty Head Lighthouse stands on the island's eastern end.  It is 70 feet tall and is an awesome vista point to view Nantucket's rugged coastline.

Restaurants

If you get hungry, there are many restaurants within a 15-minute drive of Madaket Beach.  Crosswinds Restaurant features meat items, lamb burgers, sandwiches, French fries, and drinks – it is well-known for its gelato, coffee, friendly staff, and affordable prices.  Shangri-La Kitchen is a sushi restaurant with a homely decor, indoor as well as outdoor seating, amazing city views, and an extensive wine list.  Shangri-La Kitchen Ibiza serves Indian mains, sushi, pizza, Asian mains, and ice cream.  Dragon By The Sea is a Chinese restaurant with a nice menu including chicken egg roll, pork dumplings, chicken fried rice, beef & broccoli, cocktails, and drinks and offers amazing water and mountain views.  BOAT HOUSE/Barcos y Tacos is another good restaurant that serves burritos, nachos, tacos, meat items, lamb chops, and pouting in a shaded patio setting on a terrace with city views.  If you are looking for another good nearby restaurant, The Thai House has a nice menu including ginger scallions, grapow, cashew nut, curries, noodles, and coffee.  The restaurant is popular for its salads, tiramisu cakes, sangria, and wine.
