Overview

Located within the community of Lusby in the coastal city of Maryland, Seahorse Beach is a small beige sand private beach owned and maintained by the Chesapeake Ranch Estates. The beach is positioned along Clubhouse Drive on the western shore of Chesapeake Bay and has a beautiful background of several oceanfront homes, which together provide incredible views of Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Amenities

Seahorse Beach does not have lifeguards but offers several other amenities including a few picnic tables and barbecue grill pits so plan your trip accordingly.

Activities

Seahorse Beach offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, fishing, fossil-hunting, watching birds, and beachcombing.  If you are planning to go into the water, the waves are usually calm, but we recommend being careful as the water is known to have underwater rocks and debris.  If you enjoy fishing on this beach, visitors have to obtain fishing permits.  In addition, visitors can spot shark teeth or other fossils in the sand near the beach.  However, this beach is ideal for visitors seeking a more quiet experience, as it sees fewer visitors than other nearby beaches.  Dogs are not allowed here, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

Getting to Seahorse Beach is easy - it has a few street parking spots located at 640 Clubhouse Drive, which provides easy access to the beach.

Fun Fact

Seahorse Beach is the perfect beach to relax, unwind, and watch the sunset over Chesapeake Bay.  Although the beach is privately owned, the Maryland state government allows public access to the shoreline below the mean high tide water mark.

Attractions

There are many attractions near Seahorse Beach.  Cove Point Park is a dog-friendly neighborhood park spread over five acres and offers many amenities, including baseball fields, a basketball court, tennis courts, pickleball courts, a sports field, picnic areas, pavilions, a playground, a seasonal pool, restrooms, and walking paths.   Cove Point Lighthouse is a 51-meter-high cylindrical-shaped lighthouse positioned on the western shore of Cove Point that guides ships safely past Chesapeake Bay.   Calvert Marine Museum is a small maritime museum positioned along the Patuxent River that showcases the maritime history of the Chesapeake Bay region through exhibits, photographs, and related memorabilia.  In addition, it hosts interesting events, festivals, educational programs, field trips, and outdoor exhibits throughout the year.  Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum is spread over 560-acres, overlooking the Patuxent River and offers many fun activities, including hiking, walking, birdwatching, and picnicking.  In addition, the park is popular for its archaeological significance and is home to the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab), which serves as the primary archaeological research and curation facility for the state of Maryland.  If you are looking for another nearby attraction, Calvert Cliffs State Park covers an area of 1460 acres along the eastern side of the Calvert Peninsula on the Chesapeake Bay and features towering cliffs composed of sedimentary deposits.  The state park offers many recreational activities, including fossil hunting, fishing, hiking, watching wildlife, picnicking, and camping.

Restaurants

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants within a ten-minute drive of Seahorse Beach.   Charles Street Brasserie is a waterfront restaurant that serves soups, salads, shrimp, ribeye, steaks, sandwiches, burgers, meat, seafood, and poultry dishes.   Golden Chicken & Japanese Grille serves incredible soups, salads, sandwiches, seafood, meat, and poultry dishes.  Atomic Seafood serves amazing tacos, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, meat, and poultry dishes.  La Vela Italian Restaurant serves bruschetta, soups, salads, pasta, pizzas, spaghetti, risottos, and desserts. If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant, Salsa's Mexican Cafe serves salads, soups, burritos, chimichangas, quesadillas, fajitas, enchiladas, and tacos.

Hotels

If you are looking for a hotel near Seahorse Beach, there are many great options nearby.  If you are looking for an upscale beachfront hotel, the 5-Star Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC, is one hour and twenty-two minutes away by car and offers many amenities including a fitness center, a spa, an indoor pool, a hot tub, a sauna, and several restaurants.  A more affordable hotel is the 3-Star Hilton Garden Inn Solomons, which offers several amenities including an indoor and outdoor pool, a fitness center, hot tubs, and a restaurant.  Another moderately priced option is the 3-Star Home 2 Suites by Hilton Lexington Park Patuxent River NAS, MD, which has several amenities including a fitness room, barbecue grill facility, and complimentary breakfast.  A more reasonably priced option is the 3-Star La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Lexington Park - Patuxent, which offers many amenities including a seasonal outdoor pool, a fitness center, and complimentary breakfast.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby hotel, the 3-Star The Inn at Leonardtown, Ascend Hotel Collection offers a few amenities including complimentary breakfast.
