Located on the northwestern shore of the Kohala Coast on the Big Island, Holoholokai Beach - also known as Holoholokai Beach Park - has a rocky shoreline made up of black lava and white coral with a small amount of gray sand. The beach is situated next to the Malama Petroglyph Trail, leading to the Puako Petroglyphs, the largest collection of petroglyphs (carvings in rocks) in Hawaii – more than 3,000 of these ancient drawings carved into enormous boulders. Visitors can also see Hawaiian green sea turtles (called honu) resting on the beach.
