Located in the picturesque fishing village of Beer, Beer Beach is a popular curve-shaped east-facing shingle beach with large nearby limestone cliffs in the county of Devon.  This beach is a part of a region in southwestern England called the Jurassic Coast – this region has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Conde Nast Traveller listed Beer Beach England as one of the 9 best beaches in Devon.  In addition, a picture wall art company named StoryBoards also listed this pebble beach as one of the 10 most picturesque beaches in the United Kingdom.

This beach has been awarded a Blue Flag because of its cleanliness.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Beer Beach within a 10-minute-drive.  Ducky's is a waterfront cafe that offers many delicious snacks including burgers, salads, sandwiches, toasts, and seafood – it also offers refreshing English-style tea and desserts.  Steamers Restaurant offers a variety of delicious gourmet dishes including lamb rump, pan fried scallops, roast pork belly, and an assorted seafood board.  The Smugglers Kitchen offers a cozy ambience and it offers a variety of amazing dishes including potato curry, steak, pasta, pork loin, and locally-inspired seafood dishes.  Barrel of Beer is a pub that has a festive ambience and it offers many excellent dishes including fish-and-chips, sandwiches, burgers, and jacket potatoes – it also offers a variety of excellent beverages.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant near the beach, Anchor Inn has a pub that offers a variety of excellent dishes including sandwiches, pies, risotto, katsu curry, chicken dishes, and burgers.

If you are looking for a hotel near Beer Beach, there are many great nearby options.  The Dolphin Hotel offers a bar and outdoor sitting areas - it is also located conveniently close to major landmarks around the village of Beer.  The Mason Arms Branscombe is set in a 14th century manor and offers many amenities including a pub, a beer garden, a terrace, common sitting areas, and gardens – this hotel was also listed as one of “the 100 best places to stay in the United Kingdom” by The Times.  Old Picture House is another great hotel that offers a variety of amenities including a terrace, a restaurant, and outdoor sitting areas.  A more affordable hotel is the Eyre Court Hotel that offers many amenities including a bar, picnic tables, a patio, and a terrace.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby hotel for staying in Beer and the surrounding areas, Anchor Inn has a pub and it is also located conveniently close to some of the major attractions around the village of Beer.

Although Beer Beach does not have lifeguards, this beach offers a couple of other amenities including restrooms and rental facilities for beach chairs, sunloungers, beach umbrellas, and beach huts – in addition, there is a public garden near the beach named Jubilee Gardens that offers many amenities including walking paths, outdoor exercise equipment, a playground, observation areas, and benches.

Dogs are allowed at the eastern half of this beach throughout the year.  However, they are not allowed on the western half of this beach between 1st May and 30th September.

Beer Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming, paddleboarding, surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, parasailing, boating, surf-skiing, jet-skiing, snorkeling, water-skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.

This beach is ideal for slightly less-experienced swimmers because the clear water here is known to usually have gentle waves.  In addition, surfers also visit this beach because the water here offers good surfing waves, especially in winter – you can check the Beer Beach Webcam online to see the fun waves here.  If you like fishing, you can also book fun trips on fishing boats here – some of the concessions that offer mackerel fishing trips here include Sambe E515 and Orca Charters.

If you are planning to swim, kayak, snorkel, or surf here, we recommend being careful because the deep water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents.  There is a small exhibition center near the beach named the Fine Foundation Centre that offers interesting exhibitions on the local natural and cultural history – this centre also hosts nature walks in summers.  If you like taking pictures with stunning coastal scenery, Beer Beach offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the East Devon County shoreline and the English Channel.  If you like hiking, a regional hiking trail named the South West Coast Path also passes near the beach – this path is around 630 miles long and it provides a strenuous and fun hiking experience around Southwest England.

In addition, the picturesque village of Beer also hosts many fun events throughout the year including the Beer Regatta that is held in August and the Beer Rhythm & Blues Festival that is held in October.

Beer Beach offers a seasonal wheelchair-friendly access mat for disabled visitors – this mat is available between May and Late September.

Getting to Beer Beach is easy – from a local road named A3052, you need to turn towards Hollyhead Road.  This road will eventually lead you to the village of Beer, where you can park at the multiple paid car park areas nearby.

The main paid parking lots here include the Central Car Park (which is located near the village center), the Fore Street Car Park (which is located near a street named Fore Street), and the Cliff Top Car Park (which is located at a clifftop area near the beach).

Please note that the parking rates and timings for these parking lots vary.  For more information, visit a local website named www.beercarpark.co.uk for more information on the paid parking lots.  Once you park at these parking lots, you can easily walk to Beer Beach.

The beach and village receive their name – Beer – from the Old English word beare or bearu, which means “woodlands.”  In addition, this beach was also earlier used by smugglers for transporting smuggled goods.

There are many great restaurants near Beer Beach.  The Beer Quarry Caves are a series of caves that are locally famous for being used as limestone quarries until the 20th century – these quarries date back to the Roman era and they offer a unique insight into local history.  These caves are also seasonal home to horseshoe bats and you can explore the caves through guided tours.  Pecorama – also called the Pecorama Pleasure Gardens – is an attraction that is known for having splendid gardens and it also has a miniature train that offers exciting rides – this attraction also has many other things to explore including a cafe, play areas, a pond, and zip lines.  Seaton Tramway is a three-mile-long electric tramway that offers fun tram rides – this tramway also offers a chance to see and explore the vibrant biodiversity around the Axe Estuary, and some of the Tramway’s stations also have cafes and gift shops.  In addition, visitors can also enjoy interesting tram-driving lessons here.  Jurassic Discovery is a dinosaur-themed attraction that offers fun and informative exhibits including fossil collections and dinosaur animatronics, along with a play area for kids and a cafe.  If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Seafield Gardens is a public garden in the town of Seaton that offers many amenities including tennis courts, a bowling club, a children’s play area, benches, and walking paths.
