Located in the town of Elk, Greenwood State Beach is at the mouth of Greenwood Creek in the city of Elk Grove. During the 1800s and early 1900s, the town was named Greenwood after the famous Greenwood Pier on the north side of the beach that was used as a dock for shipping goods and for travelling to San Francisco. Greenwood State Beach welcomes dogs on leash and offers many amenities including restrooms, driftwoods, two rocks arches named Wharf Rock and Casket Rock, a visitor center, and a museum. If you are looking for additional amenities, Gunderson Rock is a beautiful rock island situated just offshore from the beach. There are a couple of fun activities at Greenwood State Beach including kayaking, hiking, and beachcombing. Getting to Greenwood State Beach is easy – the beach is at 6101 Shoreline Highway and you can park along the highway. After parking, you will need to climb down a well-graded trail to the beach.

Located in the town of Elk, Elk Creek Beach is a private and rocky beach situated on the south side of Mendocino County in the city of Elk Grove. There is a large pyramid-shaped rock at Elk Creek Beach adjacent to the point where Elk Creek meets the North Pacific Ocean.  Elk Creek Beach offers a couple of fun activities including kayaking and beach exploration. A private gated road along 8350 Shoreline Highway leads to Elk Creek Beach but is not accessible to the public. The only way to reach Elk Creek Beach is kayaking south from Greenwood State Beach.
