Fort Pierce Inlet State Park has a reef system that is home to more than 500 marine creatures making it a popular destination for many water sports enthusiasts including swimmers, surfers, divers, and snorkelers. Fort Pierce Inlet State Park has dunes and a coastal hammock providing an incredible view of Tucker Cove and Hutchinson Island. Fort Pierce Inlet State Park is also a great spot for beachcombing and picnicking – and is a family-friendly beach because of its small waves and low tides.

Blue Heron Beach is known for having fantastic views of the ocean while being secluded and not crowded, making it a great family vacation destination for families. Other than parking and barbeques, there aren’t many amenities here so come prepared.
The low waves at Blue Heron Beach make it a great place for families to swim. You can spot seashells and turtle nests here, and after spending some time on the beach, we recommend driving two-minutes to Bear Point Sanctuary. The sanctuary is a 13-acre wetland preserve featuring a one-mile trail, an elevated observation platform, two covered picnic tables, and a 450-foot fishing pier.
If you get hungry, there aren’t any options on Blue Heron Beach, but you will find great options 15 minutes away. We like Taco Dive which is known for its Mexican and Southwestern cuisines. 12A Buoy, known for its lively and attention to detail atmosphere, offers refreshing seafood and amazing steaks. Costa Azul Mexican Restaurant is another great place serving authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
