Spain’s Costa del Sol, Playa de la Misericordia is a very long, wide, and
beige-colored sand beach that is one of the largest beaches in the city. Also known as Playa Misericordia
Beach, Playa de la Misericordia has been awarded Blue Flag by the
European Union and Q for Quality flag by the Spanish authorities. Playa de la Misericordia is known for a
phenomenon called as the “Ola del Melillero” which happens once a day when the
arrival of the daily ferry makes the tide rise quickly which may drench your
towels or personal belongings. The beach
was named after a provincial asylum called the Casa de la Misericordia which
was built in the 20th century and houses the Civic Center today.
