Located in the port city of Malaga on southern Spain’s Costa del Sol, Playa de la Misericordia is a very long, wide, and beige-colored sand beach that is one of the largest beaches in the city. Also known as Playa Misericordia Beach, Playa de la Misericordia has been awarded Blue Flag by the European Union and Q for Quality flag by the Spanish authorities. Playa de la Misericordia is known for a phenomenon called as the “Ola del Melillero” which happens once a day when the arrival of the daily ferry makes the tide rise quickly which may drench your towels or personal belongings. The beach was named after a provincial asylum called the Casa de la Misericordia which was built in the 20th century and houses the Civic Center today.
