Overview
Located in the southern part of Goa, Patnem Beach is a beautiful 900-meter-long curve-shaped beach with light brown sand and some large black rocks in south India. This beach is 45 kilometers south of a city named Margao. The online edition of Time Out listed this beach as one of the “19 Best Beaches in Goa.” In addition, The Guardian also featured this beach in its 2013 article “A guide to Goa's unspoilt beaches,” and it also a favorite of Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as Mr. Beach.
This beach in south Goa is open between 7:30 am and sunset.
Amenities
Patnem Beach Park has lifeguards near the main beach entrance. In addition to lifeguards, there are beach clubs and bars here that offer beach shacks and beach chairs on rent – these beach clubs also offer restrooms and showers to their customers. In addition, watersports equipment rental facilities are also available nearby.
Activities
Patnem Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming, fishing, surf-skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving, paddleboarding, water-skiing, jet-skiing, parasailing, surfing, bodysurfing, bodyboarding, skimboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.
This beach is ideal for beginner swimmers in the mornings between November and March because the water here has gentle waves. In addition, it also offers small surfing waves on very few occasions. If you plan to swim, paddleboard, or surf here, we recommend being careful because the water here can have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves – the water can be particularly turbulent here between April and October.
This beach is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter beach experience because it sees fewer visitors than other south Goa beaches. If you like birdwatching, you can also see many kinds of local and migrant birds here. If you like shopping, there are many great shopping stores near the beach that sell many interesting items including jewellery, handicrafts, clothes, and bags.
If you like taking pictures with excellent views, Patnem Beach offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Arabian Sea and the South Goan shoreline, particularly at sunset. If you like yoga, there are many yoga retreats around the beach that offer a relaxing meditation experience including Brothers Yoga Retreat and Palm Trees Yoga Resort.

There are a few free street parking spaces near the beach. However, most of these spaces are for scooters and motorcycles and not for cars.
As an alternate travel option, you can also visit this beach from Canacona by auto-rickshaw, and it costs around 150 Indian Rupees. If you are traveling from the nearby city of Margao, you can take a taxi to the beach for 1,000 Indian Rupees. The best time to visit this beach is between October and March because the weather is cool here during this time – however, we recommend visiting this beach early because it can sometimes get quickly crowded.
