Overview
Located in the city of Kalamata, Kalamata Beach – also called Paralia Kalamatas and sometimes also called Kalamata Bay – is a two-and-a-half kilometer-long popular beach with light brown sand, a significant number of small pebbles, and an amazing background of the Taygetos mountains. The eastern portion of Kalamata Beach is relatively wider than its other parts.
Kalamata Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag certification due to its cleanliness.

Kalamata Beach is popular with beginner swimmers, snorkelers, kayakers, canoers, and paddleboarders because the water here is mostly calm, warm, clear, and shallow.
The easternmost portion of Kalamata Beach is popular with visitors because it is a particularly ideal site for swimming. If you are planning to swim, snorkel, kayak, canoe, or paddleboard near Kalamata Beach, we recommend being careful because the water here can have unpredictable rip currents.

Parking
Getting to Kalamata Beach is easy – this beach is located along Kalamata’s Navarinou Avenue and it is easily accessible from Kalamata’s city center. There is a free parking lot near the eastern part of the beach, along with a few nearby street parking spaces. If you want to travel to Kalamata Beach by bus, there is a bus service to Kalamata Beach from Kalamata’s city center.
We recommend visiting Kalamata Beach early during summers because it can get crowded in this season, particularly during weekends in the months of July and August.

Kalamata Beach offers excellent views of the Peloponnese shoreline and the Messenian Gulf, particularly during sunsets.

There are many attractions near Kalamata Beach. If you like cycling, the Navarinou Avenue adjacent to Kalamata Beach offers a fun oceanfront biking experience – this road also has many beautiful vintage buildings around it. The Castle of Kalamata was initially built in the 13th century and it also has a church – there is a theater in the castle that hosts cultural performances and a dance festival during summers. Vasileos Georgiou Square is Kalamata’s central city square and a popular historic site that offers many shops and cafeterias. The area around this square also has many nearby walking and biking paths. Kalamata Municipal Railway Park is a recreational park that is known for having an open-air museum which exhibits many vintage trains and railway carriages – in addition, this park also offers many amenities including gardens, a small lake, a fountain, cafe, playgrounds, benches, basketball courts, and volleyball courts. The Archaeological Museum of Messenia is a museum that offers many interesting exhibitions on local history, along with many artifacts dating between Prehistory and the Medieval era.
