Overview
Located in the coastal village of Vourvourou on the eastern coast of the Sithonia peninsula in Greece, Vourvourou Beach is a crescent-shaped beige sand beach with many rocky portions. The beach is positioned in a sheltered inlet on the shores of the Singitic Gulf and has a beautiful backdrop of many unique rocky formations, sea caves, and forested mountains. There are nine small islets, including the famous Diaporos Island, located just off the coast, that provide Instagram-worthy views of Mount Athos and the Aegean Sea.

Vourvourou Beach does not have lifeguards or any other amenities except restrooms and nearby restaurants, so plan your trip accordingly.
Activities
Vourvourou Beach offers many fun activities, including sunbathing, swimming, beachcombing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, hiking, and fishing. If you are planning to go into the water, it has a safe swimming area, but we recommend being careful, as the water is known to have rocky bottoms. The water near the beach is shallow, which is ideal for canoes, kayaks, and small boats. Visitors can also rent a boat and explore Diaporos Island, located just off the coast. The beach offers amazing opportunities for snorkelers and divers to explore the underwater world. If you enjoy fishing, you may catch a variety of fish. Hikers can enjoy the nearby hiking trails, which offer unique insights into the local biodiversity. The beach attracts a large influx of visitors during the summer season. Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash, and it is open from sunrise until sunset.

There are many attractions near Vourvourou Beach. Petralona Cave has chambers and corridors that feature unique stalactite and stalagmite formations created by the slow dripping of water over thousands of years. In addition, one of the most notable aspects of the cave is a human skull, popularly known as the “Petralona Skull,” which is believed to be about 700,000 years old, making it one of the oldest human remains in Europe. Stone Forest in Greece is a unique natural wonder, consisting of layers of rock formations resembling trees at an altitude of 1,500 meters, formed by the erosion of limestones in an alpine environment. Koukos Canyon Trail is a dog-friendly, two-mile-long, moderately challenging hiking trail that meanders through a steep and rocky Koukos Hill where hikers can explore the remains of prehistoric city walls that surround a settlement and that offer incredible views of village Sykia. The Historical and Folklore Museum of Sarti has a gallery that displays interesting exhibits on the history and culture of the village of Sarti through historic artifacts, photographs, and related memorabilia. If you are looking for another nearby attraction, the Temple of Ammon Zeus is an archeological site where visitors can find the ruins of the temple dedicated to the Egyptian god Zeus, which offers a glimpse into the ancient history of the region.
