Banje Beach

Located east of the Old Town of Dubrovnik, Croatia, Plaza Banje - also known as Banje Beach - is an immensely popular, world-famous 300-meter-long and 100-meter-wide beige sand beach with many pebbles.  The beach is considered one of the most popular beaches of the region and has a spectacular background of cliffs, lush vegetation, and many oceanfront buildings, including homes, restaurants, and nightclubs, that offer stunning views of Dubrovnik's city walls, the island of Lokrum, Port Dubrovnik, and the Adriatic Sea.

Plaza Banje has many amenities, including seasonal lifeguards, shaded areas, a sunbed and parasol rental facility, deck chairs, Wi-Fi, trash cans, showers, changing rooms, a first-aid center, beachfront restaurants, nearby hotels, and nightclubs.

Plaza Banje is a family-friendly beach that offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, snorkeling, diving, hiking, jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, boating, banana boating, tube rides, and photography.  If you plan to go into the water, this naturally sheltered bay is a safe area to swim, but we recommend being careful as the water is known to have rocky bottoms.   Snorkelers and divers may spot the diverse marine life in its clear waters, including sea turtles, rays, dolphins, and reef sharks.  It is worth noting that the beach is a designated marine protected area to preserve its natural beauty and ecosystem.  If you enjoy fishing, you may catch a wide variety of fish here.  Hikers can enjoy the nearby hiking trails, which offer unique insights into the local biodiversity.  

Visitors can enjoy a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, making it a year-round destination. The beach is a perfect place to enjoy nightlife, and there are many beach bars that stay open until late hours.  The beach hosts many interesting events and festivals that attract a large influx of visitors during the summer season.  Interestingly, many celebrities love to spend holidays at this beach.  Plaza Banje attracts many visitors as the beach is easily accessible from the Old Town of Dubrovnik, making it a convenient spot for tourists.  The beach is known for its crystal-clear waters, striking rock formations, beach bars, nightclubs, and spectacular views, making it a fantastic and extremely popular for photos, and there are many famous spots for taking the best Banje Beach photos.  Dogs are not allowed on the beach, which is open from sunrise until sunset.

Getting to Banje Beach is easy - the beach has a few street parking spots at 20000, Ploce Iza Grada, Dubrovnik, Croatia, which provide easy access to the beach.  Please note that there are steep stairs required to reach the beach.

The beach is an ideal spot for watching the sunset over the Adriatic Sea.  Interestingly, Plaza Banje, along with Dubrovnik, has been featured in various films and TV shows, including Game of Thrones.

There are many attractions near Plaza Banje.  Dubrovnik Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, renowned for its well-preserved medieval architecture, including massive stone walls, ancient churches, palaces, monuments, and narrow cobblestone streets, making it a picturesque setting along the Adriatic Sea.  The town also offers stunning views and has gained fame as a filming location for Game of Thrones.  Fort Lovrijenac is a beautiful 16th-century fortress perched on a 37-meter-high cliff outside the western walls of Dubrovnik.  It served as a key defensive structure to protect the city from invaders, particularly the Venetians.  The fort's thick walls and strategic position provide breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea and Dubrovnik's Old Town. It hosts many cultural events throughout the year, including Dubrovnik's famous Summer Festival and theatrical performances.  Sponza Palace is a historic Renaissance building that originally served as a customs house, mint, and state treasury, playing a key role in the city’s economic and cultural life.  Presently, it is home to the city archives, preserving centuries of Dubrovnik’s historical documents, and also serves as a cultural venue, hosting exhibitions and events.

Stradun is the main street in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, lined with historic buildings, shops, cafes, restaurants, and a limestone-paved promenade, making it a lively center for locals and tourists alike.  The street is lined with 17th-century houses and is also the site of key landmarks, including the Bell Tower and the Onofrio Fountain.  It hosts many musical concerts, and the procession for the Feast of Saint Blaise, the patron saint of Dubrovnik, passes through Stradun every year.  If you are looking for another nearby attraction, The Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik showcases a diverse collection of modern and contemporary Croatian art by notable artists, reflecting the evolution of Croatian art from the 20th century to the present.  Its exhibitions include paintings and sculptures highlighting the interplay between art and the region's rich cultural heritage in an old palace with Gothic architecture.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Plaza Banje.  Banje Beach Restaurant and NightClub - also known as Banje Beach Club - is an upscale restaurant and a famous nightclub positioned right on the beach and serves amazing salads, seafood, meat, and poultry dishes.  Restaurant 360 is an upscale restaurant that serves delicious seafood.  Kavana Lazareti serves delicious soups, salads, meat, seafood, and poultry dishes.  Konoba Pjatanca serves incredible soups, salads, seafood, and meat dishes.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant nearby, Bistro Revelin serves amazing seafood.
