Located within the Port Campbell National Park in the city of Warrnambool, along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia, Logans Beach - also known as Logans Beach Whale Nursery - is a two-kilometer-long golden sand beach.  This wild and rugged beach is positioned in Logans Beach coastal village along the Southern Ocean and has a beautiful backdrop of low-lying sand dunes, coastal vegetation, and a river pool, adding to its natural beauty.

Logans Beach is considered one of the most popular and most accessible places in Australia to see whales close to shore, particularly the Southern Right Whales.  These native female whale species return to the waters at Logans Beach in Warrnambool almost every year between June and September to give birth and nurse their calves.  On the other hand, the males, yearlings, and young adults remain further out to sea.  There are dedicated Logans Beach whale-watching platforms that overlook the beach, providing an excellent vantage point to observe the whales.  Notably, we suggest calling the Visitor Information Center in advance to find out whether the whales are around.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Logans Beach. Lady Bay Resort Restaurant & Bar is a popular Logans Beach bar that serves amazing salads, seafood, meat, and poultry dishes.  Tilly Divine Kitchen & Bar serves soups, salads, meat, seafood, and poultry dishes.  Macey's Bistro serves delicious pasta, seafood, meat, and poultry dishes.  Cramer's Bistro & Bar serves delicious soups, salads, pizzas, pastas, meat, seafood, and poultry dishes.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant nearby, Shiraya Sushi & Deli serves sushi, soup, meat, and seafood.

If you are looking for Logans Beach hotels, there are many great options nearby.  If you are looking for an upscale hotel, the 4-Star Deep Blue Hotel & Hot Springs is 10 minutes away by car and offers many amenities, including an indoor pool, a spa, a sauna, hot tubs, tennis courts, and restaurants.  A more affordable hotel is the 4-Star Quest Warrnambool, which offers a few amenities, including an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a fitness center, and a barbecue grill area.  Another moderately priced option is the 4-Star Comfort Inn Warrnambool International, which has several amenities, including a dining area, an outdoor seating area, and comfortable rooms.  A more reasonably priced option is the 3-Star Warrnambool Holiday Park and Motel, which has a few amenities, including a seasonal, solar-heated outdoor pool, a hot tub, a BBQ area, and comfortable rooms.  If you are looking for another affordable hotel, Best Western Olde Maritime has a restaurant and a fitness room.

Logans Beach, Warrnambool, does not have lifeguards or any other amenities except observation decks and restrooms, so plan your trip accordingly.

Logans Beach offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, snorkeling, diving, surfing, hiking, walking, watching whales, and photography.  If you plan to go into the water, swimming is allowed, but we recommend being careful as water is known to have unpredictable rip currents.  It is worth noting that there is a Hopkins River-Blue Hole River Pool adjacent to the beach, which is a perfect place to swim or wade.  Logans Beach is a well-known surf beach with sandy shores and powerful waves, making it a popular spot for experienced surfers due to its consistent and challenging surf breaks.  Snorkelers and divers may spot the diverse marine life in the clear waters of the beach.  Hikers can enjoy the nearby hiking trails, which offer unique insights into the local biodiversity.  This beach is known for its crystal-clear waters, striking rock formations, spectacular views, and whale watching in Warrnambool, making it a photographer's delight.  The beach hosts seasonal events that often celebrate the arrival of the whales and raise awareness about their conservation.  Dogs are not allowed here, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

Logans Beach does not offer an access path for people with disabilities.

Getting to Logans Beach is easy - the beach has several parking spots near Port Campbell National Park, Great Ocean Road, Warrnambool, which provide easy access to the beach.  For Logans Beach directions, you may refer to the Logans Beach map.

Interestingly, Warrnambool’s coastline has a history of shipwrecks, earning the region the title "Shipwreck Coast."  Also, the beach’s rugged beauty and whale activity have been featured in documentaries and many travel promotions.

There are many attractions near Logans Beach.  Warrnambool Botanic Gardens is a beautifully preserved 19th-century garden designed by renowned landscape architect William Guilfoyle.  It features a tranquil lake with a picturesque bridge, picnic areas, gazebos, a fountain, and a diverse collection of plant species, making it an ideal spot for families, photographers, and nature lovers.  Thunder Point Coastal Reserve is a stunning natural area renowned for its rocky outcrops, rugged coastline, rock pools, and breathtaking sunsets.  Visitors can go walking on well-maintained paths leading to panoramic vantage points, watch native birds, and discover tidal pools positioned at the far end of the reserve filled with marine creatures.  The Warrnambool Art Gallery has a gallery that showcases a rich and diverse collection, featuring indigenous Aboriginal art, contemporary works, and significant historical pieces through exhibitions, workshops, events, and educational programs for all ages.

Middle Island is a small but significant island known for its unique penguin conservation program.  This island is actually a wildlife sanctuary that is home to a colony of native Little Penguins, which faced severe decline due to predators like foxes and stray dogs.  To protect the penguins, the Middle Island Maremma Project was launched, using Maremma sheepdogs to guard the colony. Visitors can enjoy guided tours during non-breeding seasons and the scenic views of the island and its surrounding coastline.  If you are looking for another nearby attraction, Lake Pertobe Adventure Park is an expansive park featuring playgrounds, walking trails, and picturesque lakes, making it an ideal spot to go kayaking, canoeing, walking, picnicking, and watching wildlife.
