Overview
Located in the southern portion of the city of San Clemente, Boca del Canon Beach is narrow and has light brown sand. There are also patches of gravel on the beach. It is popularly known among locals as "The Hole." Portions of Boca del Canon Beach are fixed with rocky embankments. Although Boca del Canon Beach has no lifeguards or other amenities, some restrooms can be found a short walk to the north of the beach.
Activities
Boca del Canon Beach offers a number of fun activities including beachcombing, wildlife watching, surfing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, surf-skimming, snorkeling, bodyboarding, boogie boarding, and kitesurfing. The water near the beach is known for rip currents so it’s best to be careful while swimming or engaging in water sports. You can comb the beach for sand-crabs at low tide. Depending on the time of the year, seals, sea-lions, and migrating whales can be seen in the water near the beach. The nearby San Clemente Pedestrian Beach Trail is a biking and walking trail and provides access to other beaches including T-Street Beach and Lost Winds Beach.
Parking
Getting to Boca del Canon Beach is easy -a pathway to the beach is located within the La Ladera residential area at 399 Boca del Canon. Since the residential area has restrictions on vehicles, we recommend parking on the nearby street at La Rambla. The pathway to the beach is located nearby La Rambla and crosses over a railroad that runs parallel along the beach. We recommend being careful while crossing the active railroad.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Boca del Canon Beach. San Clemente Pier offers beautiful ocean-side vistas and pier fishing spots. If you want to learn surfing, the San Clemente Surf School offers surfing lessons to beginners and also organizes surfing camps for children. The historic Mission San Juan Capistrano, which was built in 1776, features an art exhibition and organizes a number of events throughout the year including Latin cultural performances and music concerts. The Surfing Heritage & Culture Center, which is also nearby, offers an informative insight into the rich history of surf culture in California.

If you're looking for a restaurant, there are many nearby dining options. MRK Public is a high-end gastropub that has been recommended by Orange Coast Magazine and the San Clemente Journal. The gastropub offers upscale versions of classic bar foods including fried chicken sandwiches and burgers. A great family-friendly dining option is NOMADS Canteen which serves delicious fusion Mexican-Polynesian cuisine and also offers a kids menu. Another good option is the modestly priced Board & Brew which offers a great budget dining experience.
