La Piedra Beach also known as Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach La Piedra State Beach, Encinal Beach, and La Piedra State Beach is a small and narrow south-facing beach in Malibu with light brown sand and many rocks.  This beach is a part of a larger state-protected beach named Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach and is located below steep oceanfront bluffs with very expensive homes whose prices can reach $20 million.  The eastern portion of La Piedra Beach is wider and sandier than its western part.  

This beach is open between 8 am and sunset.

La Piedra Beach does not have lifeguards or other amenities except some nearby restrooms and picnic tables on the blufftop area above, so please plan accordingly.  

Dogs are not allowed here.

La Piedra Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, hiking, tidepooling, fishing, swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, skimboarding, paddleboarding, bodysurfing, jet skiing, boating, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, surf-skiing, and wildlife watching.  The beach is popular with surfers because the water here offers fun surfing waves in addition, scuba divers also visit here to explore its vibrant marine biodiversity. 

If you are planning to swim, kayak, canoe, surf, or scuba dive here, we recommend being careful because the water here can have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves if you are a beginner swimmer, we recommend being especially careful because the water here is known to be more turbulent than the other nearby beaches.  If you like tidepooling, you can explore interesting tidepools here at low tide you can see many kinds of animals while exploring the tidepools here.

La Piedra Beach does not offer wheelchair access to visitors with disabilities.

Getting to La Piedra Beach Malibu is easy the paid parking lot for this beach which holds between 15 to 20 cars is located near 32700 Pacific Coast Highway.  This parking lot charges $3 per hour, $8 per day on weekdays, and $15 per day on weekends and holidays.  Once you park here, you need to walk on a steep and rocky access trail that will lead you to the beach.  In addition to the paid parking lot, there are also free street parking areas along the Pacific Coast Highway once you park here, you can easily walk to the trail that eventually leads to the beach.  However, if you are planning to park along the Pacific Coast Highway and then walk to the beach, we recommend being careful because crossing an active highway can be dangerous.  In addition, please watch the No Parking signs on PCH because they are often confusing and parking tickets can cost more than $100 depending on the time of year.  We also recommend visiting this beach wearing sturdy footwear because this beach and the trail to it are rocky. 

If you like taking La Piedra Beach photos with amazing views, this beach offers amazing views of the southern California shoreline and the Pacific Ocean, particularly during sunset.

There are many attractions near La Piedra Beach within a 20-minute drive.  Solstice Canyon is a part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area – you can explore this canyon’s interesting landscape through hiking trails, and it also offers many fun activities, including picnicking, biking, and wildlife watching.  In addition, this canyon also has many interesting things to explore including a waterfall and the ruins of two historic houses.  Escondido Canyon Park also called Escondido Canyon Natural Area is a recreational area that offers many fun activities including hiking, horse riding, biking, and wildlife watching it has many habitats including riparian woodland, oak woodlands, and coastal sage scrub.  In addition, this natural area has an interesting multi-level waterfall named the Escondido Falls.  Malibu Bluffs Park is an oceanfront community park that offers many amenities including baseball/softball fields, wi-fi facilities, picnic areas, playgrounds, restrooms, soccer fields, tables, trails, a walking path, and drinking water facilities the park also has observation areas and it also has a community center.  

Point Dume is a large and famous promontory the area around it has a diverse coastal biodiversity and you can see many kinds of animals while visiting here.  The top of the promontory offers amazing views of the southern California shoreline, the Pacific Ocean, and the Catalina Islands and it is also a popular rock-climbing site.  If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Malibu Pier is a beautiful historic pier that was built around 1905 and it offers amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and the southern California shoreline.  This pier is also popular with fishermen and many surfers also surf in the water around this pier it also has restaurants and shopping stores.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near La Piedra Beach.  Sabor A Malibu is a food truck that serves excellent Mexican dishes including burritos, quesadillas, fries, burgers, tacos, fish and chips, and hot dogs.  Geoffrey's Malibu is an upscale waterfront restaurant that offers many amazing dishes for lunch and dinner including soups, salads, seafood, steak, and chicken dishes.  Spruzzo’s Restaurant & Bar offers excellent dishes for lunch and dinner including pastas, chicken marsala, pizzas, steaks, burgers, sandwiches, calzones, and seafood this restaurant also serves dishes with Asian and Mexican culinary influences.  Kristy’s Village Cafe – also called Kristy’s Malibu – offers many amazing dishes for breakfast, lunch, dinner including pasta, seafood, burger, sandwiches, steaks, and Asian dishes.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant,  Lily’s Malibu offers amazing Mexican dishes for breakfast and lunch including burritos, tamales, chilaquiles, tortas, huevos rancheros, and tostadas in addition, it also serves delicious sandwiches, fries, and bagels. 

If you are looking for a hotel near La Piedra Beach, there are many great nearby options.  Nobu Ryokan Malibu is an upscale adults-only hotel that has Japanese-inspired architecture and it has beautiful landscaping with local plants it offers many amenities including a zen rock fountain, stone pathways, a spa, a nearby restaurant, a racquet club, a sundeck with ocean views, a fitness center, and in-room spa treatments.  The 4-Star Malibu Beach Inn is another upscale hotel that offers many amenities including a spa, a fitness center, a beach club, a gift shop, and a restaurant.  Another popular upscale hotel is the 4-Star Surfrider Hotel Malibu that has an interesting surf culture inspired-ambiance, and offers many amenities including a guests-only restaurant, watersporting equipment and beach equipment loaner facilities, surfboard and wetsuit storage facilities, and a shower the hotel was also listed in Condé Nast Traveler’s “Gold List” of “Best Hotels In The World” in 2020 and 2021.  A more affordable  hotel is the 3-Star Malibu Country Inn that offers many amenities including a pool, an outdoor courtyard, and a restaurant.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby hotel, the 2-Star The M Malibu was one of the first motels to be built in Malibu and it offers many amenities including a pool and a sundeck with lounge chairs.
