Rhossili Bay

Rhossili Bay does not have lifeguards but offers many other amenities including a nearby surf school, restaurants, hotels, picnic areas, and restrooms.

Rhossili Bay offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, coasteering, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, bodyboarding, building castles, watching wildlife, walking, running, and hiking.  If you are planning to go into the water, it has a safe swimming area, but we recommend being careful, as the water is known to have unpredictable rip currents.  It is a perfect spot for windsurfing due to its frequently windy weather.  Hikers can enjoy the nearby hiking trails, which offer unique insights into the local biodiversity.  Visitors can also explore the nearby small rocky headland, Worm's Head, which is located on the south side of the bay and can only be accessed during low tide by a rocky causeway.  Visitors can also spot the shipwrecks of several ships, namely the Helvetia and the Samuel, around the waters of Rhossili Bay.  Depending on the time of year, you may spot seals, sea lions, and dolphins.  The beach attracts a large influx of visitors during the summer season.  Dogs are allowed here if they are on a leash, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

Rhossili Bay does not offer an access path for people with disabilities.

Getting to Rhossili Bay is easy - the beach has a large paid parking lot located at The Green SA3 1PL.  Alternatively, there is another paid parking lot located near Swansea SA3 1JD.  After parking, visitors have to hike down a rugged path for around 10 minutes to access the beach.

Many locals refer to Rhossili Bay as Llangennith Sand, and it has been the filming location for many movies and sitcoms.  The beach has also earned many titles over the years, including ‘The Supermodel of British Beaches’ by The Independent, and has also won accolades from UK Travel Writers and The Times, which nominated Rhossili as ‘The UK's No. 1 dog-friendly beach’. 

There are many attractions near Rhossili Bay.  Pennard Castle is a ruined medieval castle located on the Gower Peninsula that offers interesting insight into the history of the region and provides Instagram-worthy views of Three Cliffs Bay and the Bristol Channel.  Clyne Gardens is home to many rhododendrons, azaleas, pieris, enkianthus, and other rare species.  This dog-friendly garden offers many amenities, including themed gardens, a gazebo, a Japanese bridge, an Italian bridge, a chapel, picnic areas, picnic tables, a waterfall, a cottage, a watch tower, and the Clyne Castle.  Parc Singleton Park is a large dog-friendly park that has many botanical gardens, a pond, a lake with boating facilities, a pub, a kid’s playground with swing sets, restrooms, picnic areas, picnic tables, paved paths, biking paths, benches, and a mini golf course.  Swansea Museum has a gallery that displays interesting exhibits on maritime history, industrial revolution, transportation, archeological discoveries, and the social and cultural history of the Swansea region through artifacts, photographs, books, and related memorabilia.  The museum also displays an Egyptian mummy and amulet that were gifted to it in 1888.  In addition, the museum hosts many interesting events, educational programs, workshops, and guided tours throughout the year.   If you are looking for another nearby attraction, Rhossili Sunflowers are the iconic sunflower fields spread over eight acres overlooking the Rhossili Bay, where visitors can explore more than ten varieties of sunflowers, nature trails, sunflower arches, two giant swings, and buy flowers.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants within a six-minute drive of Rhossili Bay.   The View Rhossili Kitchen, Cafe, and Bar is a bayfront restaurant that serves eggs, omelets, French toasts, burgers, sandwiches, seafood, beef, meat, and poultry dishes.  In addition, it also serves vegan and vegetarian food.  Beach House Restaurant is an upscale and award-winning restaurant that serves incredible dishes by the famous chef Hywel Griffith.  Eddy's Restaurant is another bayfront restaurant that serves delicious salads, burgers, sandwiches, seafood, meat, pork, beef, poultry, and vegan dishes.  The Smugglers Beach Bar & Kitchen serves soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, seafood, meat, and poultry dishes.   If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant, Wyld Clwb serves amazing vegan food.
