Pentle Bay Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming, boating, jet-skiing, water-skiing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, snorkeling, tidepooling, bodyboarding, parasailing, bodysurfing, surf-skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.

The clear water here is ideal for beginner swimmers because it is known to have gentle waves.

If you plan to swim, kayak, or paddleboard here, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents.

This beach is an ideal beachcombing site and you can comb the beach here for many kinds of interesting shells.  If you like taking Pentle Bay photos with beautiful views, Pentle Bay Scilly Isles offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Tresco shoreline, the nearby Scillonian islets, and the Celtic Sea.

This beach is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter beach experience because it usually sees very few visitors.

Getting to Pentle Bay Tresco is easy – to reach the beach, you need to first reach the Island of Tresco.  Ferry services are available for Tresco from the nearby islands of Bryher and St. Martin’s – these ferries will drop you at Tresco’s main coastal settlement of New Grimsby.  If you are planning to take a ferry to New Grimsby, you can visit Tresco Estate’s tourism website for more information on the ferry schedule and the ferry fees.

Once you reach New Grimsby, you need to walk around one mile to reach Pentle Bay Beach – it will take you around 30 minutes to walk from New Grimsby to Pentle Bay Beach.  There are street signs around Pentle Bay Beach that offer directions to the beach.

If you like birdwatching, you can see many kinds of migratory and resident birds around this beach.  In addition, Pentle Bay and the surrounding areas have been listed as a “Site of Special Scientific Interest” by local authorities because there are islets here that are home to seabird nesting colonies. 

There are many attractions near Pentle Bay Beach.  Tresco Abbey Garden  was built in the early 19th century and it is home to many plants from subtropical regions around the world including aloes, camelias, palm trees, elm, poplar, and lobster claw – it also has the ruins of an old Benedictine Abbey.  It also has a museum named the Valhalla Museum that displays wreckage from ships which were wrecked around the Isles of Scilly.  Gallery Tresco is an art gallery that offers some interesting and beautiful artworks that have been created by local artists including Neil Pinkett, Gary Long, and Amanda Hoskin.  Cromwell’s Castle is a castle that was built in 1651 by supporters of British Parliamentarian leader Oliver Cromwell and it is one of the few surviving Cromwellian fortifications in Great Britain.  The Old Blockhouse is another historic site that was built in the late 16th century and it also was the site of battles during the English Civil War – the area around this blockhouse offers amazing views of the Tresco shoreline and the Celtic Sea.  If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, St Nicholas’s Church was built in the late 19th century and it has a beautiful pipe organ dating back to 1886.  Another great attraction near this beach is the Great Pool that is a natural pool and a popular bird watching site.  You can see many resident and migratory birds here including warblers, finches, and ducks.
