Located in the resort village of Polzeath, Polzeath Beach—also called Hayle Bay and Pollsygh Beach—is a 640-meter-long west-facing beach in the county of Cornwall with light brown sand, a few pebbles, a rocky shoreline, and rocky cliffs.  This beach is located at the mouth of the Camel River, near the Camel Estuary.  A stream sometimes flows through the beach – once it passes the beach, it flows into the Atlantic Ocean. 
The Sunday Times listed this sandy beach as one of the best beaches in the United Kingdom – Conde Nast Traveller also listed this beach as one of the best beaches of Cornwall.  In addition, The Telegraph also listed it as one of Britain’s 20 best beaches, and it also a favorite of Randall Kaplan, the world’s foremost beach expert who is known as Mr. Beach.  Polzeath Beach Cornwall has also been awarded a Blue Flag because of its cleanliness.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Polzeath Beach.  The Atlantic Bar & Kitchen is a restaurant with a relaxed ambience and it offers a variety of excellent Italian dishes with local influences including pizzas, grilled meats, gnocchi, pasta, sandwiches, and Cornish-style mackerel.  Surfside Polzeath offers a variety of excellent seafood, along with a variety of delicious tapas-style dishes including ribs, curry, steaks, pasta, burgers, and soup - it also hosts fun musical events.  The Cracking Crab has a vivid and casual interior and it is known for its fantastic seafood, along with a variety of other dishes including sandwiches, salads, steak, and chicken dishes.  Another great restaurant is the Oystercatcher Restaurant that has an outdoor dining area and offers a variety of excellent dishes including burgers, pasta, wraps, salads, nachos, and steak.  The Waterfront Polzeath serves many delicious dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner including pork chops, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, salads, and mussels.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant, TJs Surf Shop, Kitchen & Bar, Polzeath many great dishes with global culinary influences including burgers, fish-and-chips, salads, Cornish-style breakfast platter, and pizza – it also offers live music performances.

If you are looking for hotels near Polzeath Beach, there are many great nearby options.  The 4-Star St Moritz Hotel Cornwall offers many amenities including a spa, multiple pools, indoor tennis courts, and multiple restaurants.  Polzeath Beach House is another great hotel that has a restaurant and it also offers amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean.  The Oystercatcher offers a pub and a pool table – in addition, this hotel is also located conveniently close to some of the major attractions around Polzeath.  A more affordable hotel is the Pityme Inn that offers many amenities including a restaurant, a bar, gardens, and a sundeck.  If you are looking for another good and affordable hotel near the beach, Polzeath Beach Holiday Park offers accommodation in a cottage and a lodge and it also has a campsite that accommodates RVs – in addition, this holiday park is also located conveniently close to some of the major attractions around Polzeath.

Polzeath Beach is a seasonally RNLI lifeguarded beach – lifeguards are posted daily here between 30th April and 25th September.  In addition, they are usually posted here on weekends between 16th and 24th April and between 1st and 16th October.  In addition, lifeguards are also posted here during local holidays.  Lifeguards here are usually posted between 10 am and 6 pm. 
In addition to lifeguards, the beach offers many other amenities, including restrooms, changing rooms, showers, snack shops, and rental facilities for water sports equipment. Dogs are not allowed here between Easter Sunday and September 30th. If you are looking for other dog-friendly beaches near Polzeath Bay, you can visit Daymer Bay Beach.

Polzeath Beach offers many fun activities including beachcombing, sunbathing, fishing, swimming, paddleboarding, rock pooling, surfing, bodyboarding, boating, kitesurfing, picnicking, skimboarding, bodysurfing, windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.

This beach is a popular local surfing destination – it is ideal for beginner surfers because the water here offers fun, consistent, and manageable surfing waves.  April is the best surfing time for advanced surfers, while beginners can surf here between May and September – this beach also sometimes offers fun surfing waves in winter.  If you are planning to swim, surf, or snorkel here, we recommend being careful because the water here can have dangerous rip currents and large waves.

If you like taking pictures with beautiful views, Polzeath Beach offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Atlantic Ocean and northern Cornwall shoreline.  If you like tidepooling, you can explore the interesting tide pools along the rocks here at low tide – these pools are home to many animals including starfish and sea anemone. 
If you like hiking, a regional hiking trail named the South West Coast Path also passes near the beach – this path is around 630 miles long and it provides a strenuous and fun hiking experience around Southwest England.

This beach has a wheelchair friendly entrance for disabled visitors – in addition, there is a wheelchair-friendly coastal walkway near the beach for disabled visitors.  You can also rent beach wheelchairs here from a private concession named Wavehunters – you can visit Wavehunters’ official website for more information regarding the wheelchair booking rules and regulations.

Getting to Polzeath Beach is easy – from a local highway named A39, you need to turn towards a road named B3314.  There are street signs around B3314 that offer driving directions to the beach.

There is a paid parking lot near the southern part of the beach that accommodates around 150 cars. In case this lot fills up, there is another paid parking lot near the beach near a watersports rental shop named Ann’s Cottage. In addition, there are a few other paid parking lots in the village of Polzeath where you can park. We also recommend visiting this beach early in the summer because it can get crowded during this time.

We recommend visiting this beach at low tide because, at high tide, it can get significantly waterlogged.

Polzeath Beach was known to be a favorite surfing destination for the British Princes William and Harry when they were younger – the former British Prime Minister David Cameron also frequently used to visit Polzeath.  In addition, the town of Polzeath has been mentioned in Enid Bylton’s famous novel “Five on a Treasure Island” and in the poems of poet Laurence Binyon and poet laureate Sir John Betjeman.

There are many attractions near Polzeath Beach.  Pentire Point – also called Pentire Head – is a headland that offers many fun things to explore including woodlands, a rocky archway, a collapsed sea cave, an Iron Age fort, and Bronze Age burial mounds – this headland offers picnic areas and a cafe and it also offers amazing views of the southern England shoreline and the Atlantic Ocean, especially at sunset.  In addition, it is also a great wildlife watching site.  St. Enodoc’s Church is a church that was majorly built in the 15th century and was restored to its current form in 1864.  The church has a beautiful interior and its premises also contain the grave of poet John Betjeman – it also has a memorial dedicated to the deceased crew members of the brig Maria Asumpta, which was wrecked nearby in 1995.  If you like golf, St Enodoc Golf Club has an 18-hole golf course that offers a fun golfing experience and it also offers amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean – this golf course was remodeled in 1907 by eminent Scottish golfer James Braid.  Daymer Bay Beach is a riverfront beach that offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the River Camel and its surrounding banks – this beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming, wildlife watching, and canoeing.  If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Brea Hill – also called Bray Hill – is a small round hill that offers a fun hiking experience and it also offers a fun hiking experience – this hill has multiple Bronze Age burial mounds and Brea Hill was also featured in John Betjeman’s poem “Back from Australia.”
