Morecambe Beach

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Morecambe Beach.  Stone Jetty Cafe offers a variety of excellent snacks including sandwiches, fries, hot dogs, along with ice creams and British desserts – it also offers a variety of refreshing hot beverages.  Black Stone Grill and Thai is known for serving amazing steaks, along with many delicious Thai dishes pad med mamuang, Thai massaman curry, tom yum soup, and Thai-style dim sum.  The Brasserie is a Greek Restaurant that offers some excellent Greek and Mediterranean dishes including lasagne, kleftiko, souvlaki, imam bayildi, and falafel.  The Eric Bartholomew – J D Wetherspoon is a bar that offers delicious bar foods including pork ribs, chicken strips, grilled chicken, burgers, salads, and pasta.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant nearby, Rita’s Cafe is known for serving a variety of excellent dishes including toasts, sandwiches, jacket potato, burgers, fish-and-chips, salads, and soup.

If you are looking for a hotel near Morecambe Beach, there are many great options to stay in Morecambe.  The Midland is a 4-Star hotel that has interesting Art Deco-inspired architecture and it offers a bar – this hotel was also featured in many movies and TV shows including Agatha Christie's Poirot and the 1960 film The Entertainer.   The Morecambe Hotel is another great 4-Star hotel that is set in a building from 1828 and it offers many amenities including a garden, a patio, a kids’ play area, a restaurant, and a bar.  Another great upscale hotel is the Crown Hotel that offers a restaurant and bar – it is also located conveniently close to some of the major landmarks around Morecambe.  A more affordable hotel is the 3-Star Royal Bar and Shaker that offers an upbeat ambience and it offers a restaurant and bar – it also offers amazing views of the Morecambe Bay.  If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby hotel, the 3-Star Best Western Lothersdale Hotel offers a bar and outdoor sitting areas.

Although Morecambe Beach does not offer lifeguards, local volunteers periodically patrol this beach to ensure public safety.  In addition, this beach also has many other amenities including paid restrooms, a promenade, snack shops, a playground, benches, and grassy recreational areas.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 1st May and 30th September.

Visitors can eMorecambe Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming, fishing, kayaking, surf-skiing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet-skiing, parasailing, water-skiing, canoeing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wildlife watching.

This beach is ideal for slightly advanced swimmers because the water here usually has slightly sharp waves – in addition, the western end of the beach is ideal for windsurfers and kite surfers.

If you are planning to swim, kayak, or snorkel here, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves.  In addition, there is a quicksand pit along the beach that can be dangerous.

If you like taking Morecambe Beach photos with excellent views, Morecambe Beach offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of Morecambe town and the Morecambe Bay – you can also see the magnificent mountains of the nearby Lake District.  If you like birdwatching, you can see many resident and migratory birds here.  The southern part of this beach is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter beach experience because it sees fewer visitors as compared to other Lancaster beaches.

There are multiple interesting and popular landmarks on and adjacent to the beach – one of them is a rock jetty that is in the center of the beach and has a small lighthouse.  Another landmark is the Morecambe Promenade that is near the beach and has interesting public art installations – you can also see the Eric Morecambe statue here.  Eric was a famous comedian and a local resident and his statue was erected here in 1999.njoy a variety of activities at the beach, including swimming, sunbathing, and beachcombing.

Morecambe Beach offers wheelchair-friendly ramps for disabled visitors. In addition, there are disabled-friendly restrooms nearby.

Getting to Morecambe Beach is easy – this beach is located along a road named Marine Road and it is easily accessible from Morecambe’s town center.

There are multiple paid parking lots near this beach – one of them is the Battery Car Park located at the intersection of Marine Road and Bold Street.  Another parking lot is the Bay Arena Car Park that is located at 217 Marine Road.  You can visit the city council of Lancaster’s website for more information about the parking fees here.  In addition to the parking lots, free street parking spaces are also available near the beach.

You can easily walk to the beach after parking at these parking lots and street parking spaces.  We recommend visiting this beach early during summers because it can sometimes get crowded

In 2013, a rare and valuable substance called Ambergris was found by a visitor at this beach – ambergris – also called “whale vomit” – is produced from the digestive system of sperm whales and it is used for creating perfumes.

There are many Morecambe Bay attractions near Morecambe Beach.  Happy Mount Park is an adventure park that offers many fun things to do and explore including gardens, an indoor play area, a cafe, a minigolf facility, a multipurpose sports field, bowling areas, and trampolines – it also offers fun rock concerts.  The West End Gardens is a public garden that offers a variety of interesting public artworks and flower beds, along with many other amenities including a playground, picnic areas, and walking paths.  Morecambe Winter Gardens is a historical theater that was opened in 1897 and it hosts many fun events including theatrical plays and musical performances – in addition, you can also get a guided tour of this beautiful old theater between April and October and learn more about its history.

Another great entertainment venue is The Platform, which is set in a former Edwardian-era railway station and it hosts many fun events including musical performances, stand-up comedy shows, and community gatherings.  If you like shopping, The Festival Market is an open-air market that is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday and it has interesting shopping stalls – in addition, you can also find two cafes here.  If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Morecambe FC Mazuma Stadium – also called Mazuma Mobile Stadium – is a soccer stadium that hosts fun soccer matches – it also has a cafe that is known for serving delicious savory pies.
