At low tide, La Barra, the natural chalk reef that protects a stretch of Playa de Las Canteras, rises a meter above water level. This time is popular among snorkelers, who are able to explore the variety of stones and creatures in the water. During high tide, the reef disappears under the water, and Playa de Las Canteras becomes a surfer's and bodyboarder's paradise. On the northern end of the beach, there are old fishing boats and sun loungers to relax in. For those who enjoy shopping, there are several shops and restaurants along the promenade that serve local specialties. While not a designated nude beach, it is not usual to see topless or nude visitors, so please take this into consideration if you visit.
