There are no lifeguards on duty, and visitors should take caution while swimming

Fun fact about Tangoio Beach is that it was the location of a famous shipwreck in 1968. The wreck of the MV Tasman is still visible from the beach during low tide.

Nearby attractions include the picturesque Waipatiki Beach, the ruggedly beautiful Mahia Peninsula, and the Morere Hot Springs. Hiking trails can be found in the nearby Tangoio Falls Scenic Reserve.
