Located just north of Kawau Island in the north of the Auckland region, New Zealand, Tawharanui Peninsula Beach - also known as Tawharanui Beach - is a 1.5-kilometer-long stretch of soft, golden-white sand.  This remote beach is positioned within Tawharanui Regional Park, which is New Zealand’s first open sanctuary and has a beautiful backdrop of dunes, cliffs, farmlands, lush vegetation, and forests, creating a picturesque setting along the Omaha Bay.  Tawharanui Peninsula Beach is part of the Tawharanui Marine Reserve managed by Auckland Regional Authority and is promoted as an ecotourism destination, encouraging sustainable tourism practices that preserve its natural environment and marine life.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Tawharanui Peninsula Beach.  Plume Restaurant serves amazing seafood, meat, and poultry dishes.  Smiths - Matakana serves delicious salads, soups, meat, seafood, and poultry dishes.  Northern Eats serves delicious salads, burgers, seafood, meat, poultry, and vegetarian dishes.  Leigh Sawmill Cafe serves incredible pizzas, pasta, and Italian dishes.  If you are looking for another good and affordable restaurant nearby, The Farmers Daughter serves amazing salads, burgers, seafood, meat, and poultry dishes.

If you are looking for a hotel in Tawharanui Peninsula Beach, there are many great options nearby.  If you are looking for an upscale hotel, the 5-Star Takatu Lodge & Vineyard is 21 minutes away by car and offers many amenities, including an outdoor seating area, comfortable rooms, hot tubs, and a dining room.  A more affordable option is the 4-Star Sandspit Holiday Park, which offers a few amenities, including comfortable rooms, a barbecue grill facility, and picnic tables.  Another moderately priced option is the 4-Star Kotare Lodge, which has several amenities, including an outdoor pool, an outdoor seating area, and a dining area.  A more reasonably priced option is the 3-Star Matakana Motel, which offers many amenities, including an outdoor pool, a fitness center, a children’s play area, comfortable rooms, and an outdoor seating area.  If you are looking for another affordable hotel, Tawharanui Lodge has a few amenities, including comfortable rooms, an outdoor seating area, complimentary breakfast, and a restaurant.

Tawharanui Peninsula Beach does not have lifeguards or any other amenities except a campground, so plan your trip accordingly.

Tawharanui Peninsula Beach offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, snorkeling, camping, hiking, kayaking, fishing, picnicking, and photography.  If you plan to go into the water, this beach has a safe area to swim.   Snorkelers and divers may spot the diverse marine life that thrives in its clear waters.  Tawharanui Peninsula is popular for surfing, especially for intermediate and advanced surfers.  Hikers can enjoy the nearby Tawharanui Ecology Trail and North Coast Track, which offer unique insights into the local biodiversity.  If you want to enjoy camping, you may book a nearby campsite that offers an amazing camping experience near the beach.  Visitors may spot North Island brown kiwis, dolphins, fur seals, orcas, and many native birds, including weka, takahe, tui, bellbirds, kaka, and kereru.  This beach is a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and recreational opportunities, making it an ideal destination on the Tawharanui Peninsula.  Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

Tawharanui Regional Park is a nature reserve spread over 588 hectares along the Tawharanui Peninsula, which is home to green pastures, wetlands, and a beautiful white sandy beach.  It is New Zealand's first open sanctuary integrating farming, conservation, and recreation, where visitors can enjoy many fun activities, including watching wildlife, hiking, swimming, surfing, snorkeling, diving, camping, and picnicking.  Goat Island Marine Reserve is recognized as the country's first marine reserve, spanning 547 hectares of protected waters and being a haven for marine life, making it a perfect spot for snorkeling, diving, kayaking, paddleboarding, and picnicking.  In addition, there is a small, rocky island positioned just offshore, rich in Maori history, which can be accessed by swimming or kayaking, but landing on the island is not permitted.

The Warkworth Museum has a gallery that displays artifacts, photographs, and documents that showcase the rich history, culture, and heritage of Warkworth, Maori culture, early European settlers, and the kauri timber and gum industries.   Ti Point Reptile Park is home to a variety of native and exotic reptiles, including tuatara, iguanas, chameleons, tortoises, snakes, green geckos, and ornate skinks, making it an ideal spot for wildlife enthusiasts.  If you are looking for another nearby attraction, Matakana Village is a small, charming, and vibrant destination along the Matakana River, known for its boutique shops, local markets, wineries, a cinema hall, and art galleries.  Visitors can enjoy fresh local produce, artisan cheeses, honey, handmade crafts, and gourmet street food.  The village also hosts occasional craft fairs and live music events.
