Playa Norte(North Beach)

Located on the northern tip of Isla Mujeres, Playa Norte - also known as Playa Norte- Isla Mujeres - is a one-kilometer-long white sand beach.  The beach is considered the best beach on the island.  This immensely popular beach has an amazing backdrop of a grove of swaying palm trees, coastal vegetation, and several oceanfront buildings, including beachfront restaurants and bars, which together offer panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.  Playa Norte has been awarded the Blue Flag certification for its natural beauty, cleanliness, and water quality standards.

Playa Norte has many amenities, including seasonal lifeguards, restrooms, showers, shaded areas, a sunbed and parasol rental facility, a beach equipment rental facility, beachfront bars, and restaurants.

Playa Norte offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, picnicking, paddleboarding, and sailing.  The shallow, calm, and crystal-clear turquoise waters make the beach an ideal spot to swim.  The beach offers amazing opportunities for snorkelers and divers to explore the underwater world.  Anglers may catch a wide variety of fish in the water near the beach.  There are many points near the beach known for taking amazing Playa Norte photos.  You may spot many beach vendors offering various items, from handmade crafts to refreshing coconuts and snacks.  The beach hosts various cultural events throughout the year, including live music performances and local festivals.  It is perfect for visitors looking for a serene experience, but it attracts many visitors for its beauty and easy accessibility.  Also, riding bicycles is a popular mode of transportation around the island, allowing visitors to experience the calm surroundings at their own pace.  Visitors can enjoy the warm and subtropical climate throughout the year.  Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

It is important to note that the only way to reach Isla Mujeres is by ferry.  Visitors can book a ferry from Punta Sam Ferry Terminal, located at 77420 Punta Sam, Quintana Roo, Cancun, that takes 45 minutes to reach Isla Mujeres Ferry Terminal, which costs around $270 MXN. 

There are multiple ferry crossings throughout the day, and the ferry operators also offer visitors the option to transfer their cars to Isla Mujeres on a ferry with them, for which you have to pay and book in advance.  Alternatively, visitors can also charter their own boats to access the island.

Once you are on Isla Mujeres, Playa Norte is about a 15-20 minute walk from the ferry terminal. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or rent a golf cart near the ferry terminal, which is a popular way to explore the island.

There are many attractions near Playa Norte.  Garrafon Natural Reef Park is a popular eco-park that offers many fun activities, including snorkeling, zip-lining, kayaking, and paddleboarding.  The park also has many amenities, including an infinity pool, observation decks, a hammock garden, traditional Mayan steam baths, and several restaurants.  Faro de Punta Norte is a lighthouse located at the northern tip of Isla Mujeres that is an iconic landmark on the island and serves as a beacon for maritime navigation.  Visitors can explore the maritime history of the region while enjoying the panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.  Punta Sur is the southernmost point of Isla Mujeres, which is the highest point on the Yucatán Peninsula, renowned for its dramatic cliffs that rise above the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.  Visitors can explore the remnants of a small Mayan temple dedicated to the goddess Ixchel, an outdoor sculpture garden, and walking trails.  MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte) is a unique underwater art museum that features more than 500 sculptures that reflect a range of themes, from human figures in everyday poses to more abstract concepts.  These sculptures were created by several artists, most notably Jason deCaires Taylor, a British sculptor known for his underwater installations.  Visitors can explore this modern underwater sculpture museum via glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, or scuba diving.  If you are looking for another nearby attraction, Dolphin Discovery Isla Mujeres is a popular marine park that offers a variety of interactive programs with dolphins and other marine animals in a natural setting, where visitors can swim with dolphins, learn about their behavior, and even engage in activities like the "dolphin kiss" or "dorsal tow."  It offers many educational programs designed to learn about marine life, the importance of protecting the oceans, and the role that dolphins, manatees, and sea lions play in the ecosystem.
