Located in the city of Coral Gables, Matheson Hammock Park is a 630-acre recreational park that has an unnamed white-sand beach with palm trees. This beach is also known as Matheson Hammock Park Beach and Matheson Beach. This circular beach is present along the shores of an artificial atoll pool, which is naturally replenished by water from the nearby Biscayne Bay.
Matheson Hammock Park has a vibrant landscape which has many habitats including mangrove forests, swamps, grassy fields, and hardwood hammock forests - you can explore the park’s landscape via hiking and biking trails. Depending on the time of the year, you can view many kinds of migratory and resident birds in Matheson Hammock Park including the sulfur-bellied flycatcher, red-masked parakeets, and the black-throated gray warbler, along with many varieties of shorebirds. The park also has a marina where rental facilities for water sporting equipment are available - you can rent stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and canoe from this marina and have a fun kayaking, canoeing, or paddle boarding session along Biscayne Bay. The water of the Biscayne Bay here is especially ideal for kiteboarders as it is shallow yet windy.
