Overview
Located in Komodo National Park, Namo Beach – also called Red Beach – is a beach with pink sand, and nearby hills on Komodo Island. This beach is in Indonesia’s province of East Nusa Tenggara and it is a part of an archipelago named the Nusa Tenggara Islands.

Activities
There are many fun things to do in Namo Beach including sunbathing, beachcombing, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, surf-skiing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife watching.
The water here is ideal for less-experienced swimmers because it is known to be mostly shallow and have manageable waves. Snorkelers and scuba divers also frequently visit the beach to explore the vibrant marine life – there are coral reefs here and you can see many fish near the beach. If you plan to swim, kayak, or snorkel here, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves. In addition, the water here sometimes has low visibility.
On very rare occasions, you can sometimes see Timorese deer here, along with iconic Komodo dragons.
If you like taking pictures with beautiful views, Namo Beach offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Komodo island shoreline, especially in the morning. This beach is ideal for visitors looking for a quieter beach experience because it sees fewer visitors as compared to other nearby beaches. If you want to explore other nearby beautiful beaches, you can visit the nearby Pink Beach which is also on the island of Komodo and also has pink sand. In addition, you can also visit Long Beach, which is located on the nearby Padar Island.

Parking
Getting to Namo Beach can be slightly difficult because the only way to reach it is by boat – you can book a boat trip to the beach from a nearby town named Labuan Bajo. This town is located on the nearby island of Flores – it takes around 20 minutes to reach Namo Beach from Labuan Bajo by boat. Many local private boat tour companies offer boat trips to Namo Beach – some of the companies include Komodo Touristic, Captain Komodo, and Komodo Luxury. These boat tours can cost anywhere between $100 and $500 depending on the duration of the tour and the luxury services offered in the tours. We recommend visiting this beach in the late afternoon because the pink sand here is clearly visible during this time.
Fun Fact
The pink colored sand here gets its color from tiny broken coral fragments, remains of microscopic creatures named foraminifera, and fragments of pink shells – these fragments eventually get mixed with the sand and give it its characteristic pink color.

There are many attractions near Namo Beach on the island of Komodo and the other nearby Nusa Tenggara Islands. The Dragon’s Nest – also called Loh Liang – is a coastal area that visitors can explore through tour guide-led tours – you can see many animals here including Timorese deer, rare Komodo dragons, and many kinds of birds. The nearby village of Komodo is another popular nearby attraction – this village offers interesting panggung-style houses and it also has many wood carving shops. You can purchase interesting wood carvings from here. Padar Island – also called Palau Padar – is a small island that offers many interesting things to explore including rugged mountains and multiple gray-colored, pink, and white sand beaches. This island offers many fun activities including swimming, kayaking, canoeing, wildlife watching, hiking, scuba diving, and snorkeling.
Gili Trawangan is a small nearby island that is a popular snorkeling and scuba diving site – the water here has a vibrant marine biodiversity and the most popular aquatic creatures here are the sea turtles. Manta Point - also called Manta Alley - is another popular attraction - this marine site is popular with scuba divers and snorkelers and you can see many manta rays and jellyfish here. If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Loh Buaya is a coastal area located on the nearby island of Rinca – you can explore this area’s vibrant landscape by hiking. This island is also famous for having komodo dragons and you can see them while they hunt.
