Golden Beach

Located on the southeastern coast of Paros, in the Cyclades Islands of Greece, Golden Beach - also known as Paralia Chrisi Akti and Golden Beach Paros - is a 700-meter-long sandy beach with many rocky portions.  This beach in Paros is famous for its fine, golden sand, which has glass particles and provides a glittering effect in the sun, from which it gets its name.  The beach has a beautiful backdrop of rugged cliffs, lush vegetation, and a few oceanfront buildings, including beachfront bars, several hotels, apartments, villas, and a small chapel built on the rocks along the shoreline, creating a picturesque setting along the Aegean Sea.  Golden Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag certification due to its natural beauty, cleanliness, and water quality standards.

Golden Beach is a family-friendly beach that offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, snorkeling, diving, hiking, jet skiing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking, boating, paddleboarding, and photography.  If you plan to go into the water, it has a safe area to swim, but we recommend being careful as the water is known to have unpredictable rip currents.   Snorkelers and divers may spot the diverse marine life that thrives in its crystal-clear waters.  

The beach is well-known for its consistent, strong Meltemi winds, making it one of the top destinations in Greece for water sports, especially windsurfing and kitesurfing. There are numerous windsurfing schools and diving centers that operate along the beach, catering to both beginners and experienced surfers.  Golden Beach hosts many interesting events, including the annual Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) World Cup, attracting professional windsurfers from around the globe.  

In addition, visitors can also explore the small, uninhabited island of Drionisi, located just off the coast by boat.  Hikers can enjoy the nearby hiking trails, which offer unique insights into the local biodiversity.  Visitors can enjoy a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, making it a year-round destination.  Paros Golden Beach is a perfect place to enjoy nightlife, and many nearby beach bars stay open until late hours.  Dogs are not allowed on the beach, which is open from sunrise until sunset.

Golden Beach can also be reached by public transport; many buses start from the Port of Paros, which is around 20 kilometers away and stop near the beach.  Alternatively, visitors can also rent a car from the port to access the beach.

Although the beach is located on the eastern side of the island, Golden Beach still offers lovely sunset views over the hills behind the beach.

There are many attractions near Golden Beach.  The Monastery of Agios Antonios is a 16th-century historic religious site perched on the top of a hill built in the traditional Cycladic architectural style, with whitewashed walls, arches, and a small bell tower that plays an important role in the local religious and cultural life of Paros.  The monastery offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the nearby villages, beaches, and the Aegean Sea.  Parikia is the capital and main port of Paros Island, which is a bustling town with a blend of modern conveniences and traditional Cycladic architecture, making it one of the most popular destinations on the island.  It is known for its historic churches, the Frankish Castle, an ancient cemetery, a museum, bustling markets, lively harbor, seaside tavernas, vibrant nightlife, and beautiful beaches.  

Frankish Castle Parikia is a 13th-century hilltop historic fortress built by the Venetians as a defensive structure that played a key role in the protection of Paros Island.  It was built using the remains of ancient structures, including marble columns and stones from an earlier temple dedicated to Athena.  Today, the castle is in ruins; its remaining walls and fragments provide a glimpse into the island’s medieval past, making it a significant historical and cultural landmark in Paros.  The Cave of Archilochus is named after the famous ancient Greek poet Archilochos, who was born on the island and known for his lyrical poetry.  It is believed to be the place where Archilochos found inspiration and composed many of his poems.  The cave is situated on a hillside overlooking the Aegean Sea, where visitors can enjoy scenic views, especially during sunset.  If you are looking for another nearby attraction, The Archaeological Museum of Paros displays a collection of items from the Cycladic civilization, including tools, pottery, marble sculptures, sarcophagi, and inscriptions, offering visitors a glimpse into the historical and cultural significance of the island.
