Simos Beach(Fragos)

Located on the southern tip of Elafonisos Island, in the region of Laconia, Peloponnese, Simos Beach is 1.5 kilometers long and has a fine golden sand beach.  This beach is often considered one of the best beaches in Greece.  Simos Beach comprises two main sections, Simos Megalos (Big Simos) and Simos Mikros (Small Simos), connected by a narrow strip of sand and has a beautiful backdrop of dunes and low vegetation, creating a picturesque landscape.  The area around the beach is part of the European Union's Natura 2000 network to ensure the survival of Europe’s most valuable and threatened species and habitats.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach, and the beach is open from sunrise until sunset.

Getting to Simos Beach is easy - visitors can reach Elafonisos Island via a short ferry ride from the mainland Port of Pounta.  Once you are on the island, the beach is located at Elafonisos 230 53, Greece, near Simos Camping Elafonisos, which provides easy access to the beach.

There are many attractions near Simos Beach.  Elafonisos Town is the charming town on Elafonisos Island, known for its relaxed vibe, whitewashed houses, narrow streets, beaches, caves, churches, and a picturesque harbor dotted with fishing boats and many restaurants and cafes serving traditional seafood.  The Church of Agios Spyridon is a small, picturesque church positioned on a tiny islet connected to Elafonisos Town by a narrow bridge.  This whitewashed church is surrounded by crystal-clear waters, creating a serene and picturesque setting.   Pavlopetri is one of the oldest known submerged cities in the world, dating back to around 5,000 years ago, located near Elafonisos Island in Greece.  It was discovered in 1967; this ancient settlement features well-preserved streets, buildings, tombs, and courtyards visible beneath the clear waters of Vatika Bay, which is a rare glimpse into early urban planning.  Diving and snorkeling are popular ways to explore the site.

The Lighthouse Stavros Elafonissos is a historical beacon that was built to guide vessels navigating the Laconian Gulf and the Myrtoan Sea.  The lighthouse offers visitors breathtaking panoramic views of the Aegean, and it also has a small museum that offers interesting insight into the maritime heritage of the island.   If you are looking for another nearby attraction, The Lost Gipsy Hole is a rugged terrain with informal trails that lead to quiet coves or cultural landmarks like the Church of Agios Spyridon or the Stavros Lighthouse.  Hikers can enjoy this moderately challenging trail, which offers unique insights into the local biodiversity and serene natural beauty of the island.
