St. Kilda Beach is a family-friendly beach that offers many fun activities, including swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, boating, rock fishing, walking, jogging, sailing, rollerblading, beach volleyball, jet skiing, and waterskiing. If you are planning to go into the water, it has a safe designated swimming area, but we recommend being cautious as the water is known to have unpredictable rip currents. The beach is protected by a long breakwater that shelters St Kilda Harbour, and visitors can also spot a little penguin colony near the St Kilda Pier. Visitors can also enjoy St Kilda Sea Baths, located near the St Kilda Pavilion, which offer a sheltered swimming area for families and children.
The beach is a perfect spot for enjoying water sports; windsurfing is a popular sport among the tourists due to its frequently windy weather and great waves from westerly winds. Snorkelers and divers may spot an array of marine life, making it a fascinating spot for nature enthusiasts. If you enjoy fishing, you may catch a variety of fish. There is a paved coastal footpath that runs along the beach and is frequented by tourists, runners, rollerbladers, and walkers to enjoy the sunrise.
The beach hosts many interesting events throughout the year, including the famous St. Kilda Festival, music concerts, the kite flying festival, and many sporting events that attract a large influx of visitors to this beach each year. On Sundays, visitors can explore the St. Kilda Esplanade Market near the promenade, where they can relish regional delicacies and pick up souvenirs from many stalls selling unique handmade arts and crafts.
Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash, and it is open from sunrise until sunset.
