Point Wilson is situated on the northern shores of Corio Bay, approximately 60 kilometers from Melbourne and 25 kilometers from Geelong. It serves as the northern entrance to Corio Bay and is marked by a low basalt point protruding south into Port Phillip Bay[1][2]. The area is environmentally sensitive, forming part of the Port Phillip Bay and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar Site, an important wetland for various bird species[2]. Public access is restricted due to an explosives facility in the area, which has been operational since 1962[2]. The vicinity includes the Murtcaim Wildlife Area and Melbourne Water's Western Treatment Plant[2].
