Lameroo Beach is a small beach located off the esplanade in central Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. It is situated at the base of densely vegetated bluffs within Bicentennial Park and offers a sheltered cove. The beach was once home to the historic Lameroo Baths, which were popular for swimming between 1922 and 1974. The name 'Lameroo' derives from a corrupted interpretation of the Aboriginal site Damoe-Ra, meaning 'eye' or 'spring' in Larrakia.
The area is known for its cultural significance and historical events, including the presence of hippies in the 1960s and 1970s. Today, it remains a tranquil spot with a mix of sand and gravel, though it is not commonly used for swimming due to its tidal nature and rocky flats at low tide.
The beach is a unique part of Darwin's cityscape, providing a natural refuge from the urban environment.
