Overview
Located in Royal National Park in New South Wales, Wattamolla Beach is a 150-meters-long east-facing beach with light brown sand, a nearby lagoon, and nearby rocky outcrops. Two creeks – Coote Creek and Wattamolla Creek – flow near this beach – once these creeks pass the beach, they flow into the Pacific Ocean.
Amenities
Although Wattamolla Beach does not have lifeguards, the area near this beach has many other amenities including a boardwalk, hiking trails, nearby viewing areas, and a picnic area named Wattamolla Picnic Area that offers restrooms, barbecues, and picnic tables.
Dogs are not allowed at Wattamolla Beach.
Activities
Wattamolla Beach offers many fun activities including sunbathing, picnicking, hiking, beachcombing, swimming, tidepooling, surfing, skimboarding, bodysurfing, bodyboarding, paddleboarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, surf-skiing, and wildlife watching.
The water here is usually ideal for less-experienced swimmers because the clear water here is known to have gentle waves – in addition, the water here also occasionally offers fun surfing waves.
If you are planning to swim, kayak, canoe, or paddleboard here, we recommend being careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves – the rocky shoreline around Wattamolla Beach can also cause injuries. In addition, jellyfish are also known to live near this beach. If you are planning to swim in calmer and safer water conditions, there is a lagoon near the beach that has calm water and offers a safer swimming experience.
If you like taking pictures with excellent views, there is an observation area near this beach that offers amazing Instagram-worthy views of the Pacific Ocean and the New South Wales shoreline.
If you like camping, there are multiple campgrounds near the beach within Royal National Park – these campgrounds offer a fun nearby Wattamolla Beach camping experience and accommodate both tents and RVs. Parking
Getting to Wattamolla Beach is easy – from a road named A1 (which is a part of a larger Australian national highway named Highway 1), you need to turn towards Sir Bertram Stevens Drive. From Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, you need to turn towards Wattamolla Road. The entrance booth for Royal National Park is located along Wattamolla Road – you need to pay a $12 entry fee at this entrance booth and then drive on along the road.
There are multiple parking lots near the end of Wattamolla Road, along with a few street parking spaces – once you park here, you can easily walk to Wattamolla Beach through a dirt access trail. This trail leads to a flight of stairs that leads to the beach.
We recommend visiting the beach early during summers because it can occasionally get crowded during the sunny Wattamolla Beach weather.
It is also important to note that this beach does not have a strong mobile network reception.
Fun Fact
Wattamolla Beach was discovered in 1796 by British cartographer and navigator Captain Matthew Flinders. In addition, the name of this beach – Wattamolla – means “place near running water” in the local Aboriginal language.
Attractions
There are many attractions near Wattamolla Beach within a 25-minute drive. You can check Wattamolla Beach Photos that often feature Wattamolla Falls – this beautiful nearby Wattamolla waterfall is a considerably popular photography site. In addition, the topmost area of this waterfall offers excellent views of the Wattamolla Creek and the New South Wales shoreline. Marley Head is a headland that offers a fun hiking experience – this headland is also home to many plants and animals and it also offers amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. Sydney Tramway Museum is one of Australia’s oldest tram museums and it offers an interesting variety of vintage trams from many cities of the world including Brisbane, Berlin, Milan, and Nagasaki. This museum also has tram-related exhibitions, Sydney’s last double-deck trolley bus, and a bookstore. Prince Edward Park is a waterfront park that offers many amenities including a playground, a boat ramp, an outdoor gym, picnic facilities, a playground, and a boardwalk. This park also has a beach named Prince Edward Park Beach. If you are looking for another attraction near the beach, Symbio Wildlife Park is a 16-acre wildlife park that has many kinds of animals including lemurs, monkeys, pandas, cheetahs, alligators, and koalas. The wildlife park also has gardens, a playground, picnic areas, and a splash park.

If you get hungry, there are many great restaurants near Wattamolla Beach within a 30-minute drive. Legendary Fish & Chips is known for serving excellent fish and chips, along with a variety of other seafood dishes and it also offers excellent burgers, salads, burgers, and bread rolls. Rocksalt is an upscale restaurant that serves excellent gourmet dishes including steaks, duck breast, pork belly, seafood, and lamb. Bistro 32 is a bistro that offers many excellent French dishes including filet de boeuf, French-style seafood, salads, and veal. The Big Mexican Rancho offers excellent Mexican dishes including quesadillas, fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, and chile rellenos. If you are looking for another good and affordable nearby restaurant, Big Red Cafe offers many fun activities including burgers, waffles, salads, eggs, and nachos and it also serves amazing coffee.

The 4-Star Rydges Cronulla Beachside offers many amenities including a restaurant and a swimming pool.
