Overview
Located in the suburb of Tamarama, Tamarama Beach – also known as Tamarama Park Beach and also unofficially called Glamarama Beach and Glamourama Beach – is a 100-meters-long beach with light brown sand, a few rocks, and nearby headlands. This beach is popular with members of the gay community and has been listed by the TimeOut magazine as “The best LGBTQI + and Gay beaches in Sydney.” This beach was the subject of a painting by artist Julian Rossi Ashton that was titled Tamarama beach, forty years ago, a summer morning.
Amenities
Tamarama Beach has lifeguards between June to September between 8:30 am and 5 pm and it has lifeguards from September to May between 8:30 am and 7 pm. In addition to lifeguards, this beach has many other amenities including barbecue areas, outdoor exercise equipment, a playground, grassy recreational areas, volleyball nets, changing rooms, showers, restrooms, and artificially shaded areas.
Dogs are not allowed at Tamarama Beach.

This beach is ideal for advanced surfers and bodysurfers because the water here is occasionally known to have thrilling, powerful, and short surfing waves. If you are planning to swim, kayak, surf, or paddleboard here, we recommend being extremely careful because the water here is known to have unpredictable rip currents and really dangerous waves. In addition, many sharks have also been known to live near this beach.

Fun Fact
This beach received its nickname – Glamarama Beach – because of its popularity with the members of the gay community and because of its upscale and hip ambiance. The name of the beach and the suburb – Tamarama – is derived from the Aboriginal Australian word “Gamma Gamma” which usually translates to “storm.” In addition, this beach was the site where one of Sydney’s first coastal amusement parks opened in 1887 – this park was named Royal Aquarium and Pleasure Grounds and it was nicknamed the Bondi Aquarium. In addition, this beach is also home to Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club, which was founded in 1906 and is known to be one of the first modern surf lifesaving clubs of the world.

There are many attractions near Tamarama Beach. Waverley Park is a recreational park that has a monument dedicated to the members of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. This park also offers many amenities including grassy recreational areas, benches, barbecue areas, playgrounds, restrooms, a cricket ground, basketball grounds, and a football ground.
